Multitude of HID questions from a newb =)

So I have a list of questions that I would love for some of you guys "in the know" to help me out with!

1. Why haven't I seen anyone say anything about HID HIGH beams?
2. If I wanted to convert my entire lighting assembly to HIDs, what would I need to purchase? Or how many different kits would i need?
3. What bulb type do I need do I need for the HID fogs? (H1, H3, ect.)
4. Why do people do the parking light delete?

Re: Multitude of HID questions from a newb =)

1. No one drives around with their highs on when theres other drivers around. And the high beams already produce plenty of light.
2.Entire lighting as in Lows, highs and fogs? 3 kits. But as I said no one really puts HIDs on the highs.
3. Depending on what year your MZ3 is their either H11 or 9006.
4. Personal choice. Some people like the amber light of the parking light on with their HID's others do not.

Working on getting a sig. Until then, here is my cars Ti-Gray thread!

1) I've had HID high beams for a year or so now. They are super bright but the warm-up time makes them a nuisance unless you regularly drive in low traffic, back country type areas where you can leave them on for more than a minute at a time.

I guess my reasoning for wanting the HID highs is my anal tendencies. I think it would just bug me to have some lights that are HIDs and halogens... I know, I'm weird.

As for the parking light question, please disregard. I just got my M3 a week or so ago and I hadn't really noticed that they're on while driving.

Re: Multitude of HID questions from a newb =)

Like balding geezer mentioned HIDs take a little bit to actually warm up. Most people use their high beams sparingly and for short periods of time, turning them on/off quickly. Doing this really isn't all that great for HID ballasts so it would shorten the life of the ballasts. That's not to say they're going to fail in a week, but it's just not great for them.

Wow I didn't know these things, not to threadjack, but I feel the same, I wouldn't be happy with HID lows but reg. Halogen high's and drl's..so what would a person do? I mean, what is the option if you want HID highs? I do a fair amount of highway driving (when I leave for work its dark and when I come home from work its dark, thanks winter), so I would want to have high's as an option, no? Thanks and sorry again! Just didnt feel like a new thread should be started

Re: Multitude of HID questions from a newb =)

I don't use highs unless i'm in a really deserted area, which is probably around 30 mins total usage in a 3 year period......... imo you should get hids and then realize that you wont need high beams as the HIDS are usually good enough

and like geezer mentioned, you can get HID highs if you want, but they will take a lil while (15 secs?) to get bright

Okay cool, as someone else previously stated about them selves which I can completely agree with, I am very anal about my car stuff so if i have HID's, I wouldnt want a yellow halogen light for DRL's, so if I wanted could I just get led's for the drl's? If you do a drl delete, do you just leave the bulb in the socket? Sorry for all the questions, just want to understand it before I do it

can't really help you with the DRL as we don't have that here, not sure of the laws etc.

shit, didnt know you didn't have them! We do but I'm not sure if its law..doesnt matter anyway because I would want to get the led's so it shouldn't be a problem either way.
