HID Help/LED Tails?

So i've searched this for answers on how to upgrade to HID. I'm confused as hell and would like someone to post what I need and how to do it for dummies Thank you.

Also has anyone successfully installed LED Tail Lights on a 2010 MZ3 Hatch?

Re: HID Help/LED Tails?

I guess the first thing we need to know is what car do you have? I'm going to assume you have a 2010 i/s and not a gt (GT has HID lights in them stock). With that assumption...

You can buy a HID kit here at http://www.ddmtuning.com/product.php?II=102. The bulb # is H11 for the 2010 low beams (I believe they are H7 with the 1st gens).

http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/yhst-34661758797493_2102_4657

This will give you an idea of the colors you'll get with the kelvin temps, for a 35W. If you decide to go 55W (which is brighter but 35W is plenty IMO) you may need to order a harness kit as well. Note that 55w colors are different than 35W in terms of Kelvin temps. I have 35W 6000k and they're perfect, when they first fire up they're blue but get to white once they warm up. Most use 5000k I've gathered. If you want as close to OEM color as you can, then 4300k is what you would get. Most would probably recommend to not go above 6k but that all depends on you and what you like.

*Note, aftermarket HID kits are not street legal and kits that are higher than 6K are more of a give away. But I'm sure there are lots that get away with like 8k and never get ticketed.*

Mazdazoom86 made a little write up for installation of the 35W HID kits here at
http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=172046.0

It's really simple to do, pretty much twist and remove. Then plug wires into other wires and mount the ballasts.

In regards to LED tail lights, I've been looking into this as well and people have linked this.

Re: HID Help/LED Tails?

I have the 2010 3 hatch with 2.5 litre engine.

So it is illegal to have aftermarket HID headlights? That's kind of strange... Wouldn't the government want us to see better? And, if I take my car in for service with these on could I potentially get in trouble?

Re: HID Help/LED Tails?

Since you have projector beam headlights, you're fine adding a HID kit. Those that have problems are civics and the like with reflector housings. Big difference and unless you go purple, you'll have no problems and your Mazda service tech won't care (unless you go 55w and fry your wiring).

I assume you want LED tails, not just bulbs. Forum sponsor Corksport sells them and they're plug and play. http://www.corksport.com/product-32517.html

Re: HID Help/LED Tails?

OK cool, I have a 2010, 2.5L HB as well. I guess you have the sport and not the GT right?

Yeah, it would make sense for them to make it legal...the problem is when people do aftermarket HID kits into mirrored housings rather than headlights that projectors like the 3's have. When they do that the light bounces all over the place and it can blind other drivers. Like I said before, luckily the 3's have projectors.

That being said, yes...aftermarket HID lights are not street legal. BUT because our 3's have projectors, to the casual glance they would seem to be stock (if HID's come stock with the car, it's legal). So I don't think most would get pulled over, UNLESS they're really obnoxious with like 12000k HID purple colored that is obviously not stock lol. That's why I said most would probably recommend not getting above 35W 6k.

I know there are those on these forums that rock 35W 8K's so maybe they'll say otherwise but I personally wouldn't risk it. Remember that 55W Kelvin temps are different should you decide to go 55W. Which is extremely bright, in my opinion the 35W is sufficient enough.

But definitely get an HID kit, the stock halogens on the 2010 are stupidly useless for driving at night.

Re: HID Help/LED Tails?

Balls, that's super way more expensive than I was hoping it'd be to go LED in the tail lights...bah!

I don't want to hear it...lol. I'm about to buy Golf R LED tails for my GTI and they're $799.

Re: HID Help/LED Tails?

I'm assuming that I don't have the gt. It only says Mazda 3 2.5 on the back. And it has 2 (really 1 split to 2 tail pipes)

holy shit. The LED lights are so expensive. It's so tempting though since I'm putting a led 3rd brake light and LED strip lights in the front.

Re: HID Help/LED Tails?

I'm fairly confident you would know if you had the GT. GT would have leather, climate control, Adaptive Front light system, Bi-xenon lights lol.

Anyways...you're putting LED strips in the front, where?
