Halogen to HID?

So I'm guessing that this isn't as simple as I would like it to be? My guess is that the Halogens on my MZ3 are encased in a reflective housing...would that make upgrading to HID extremely annoying for other drivers?

Like all 3's you have projector beam lamps. An HID upgrade is easy and if you don't go with 55w, will not annoy other drivers.

Its those that install HIDs on cars with reflector housings or city drivers with 55w bulbs that annoy oncoming traffic.

Re: Halogen to HID?

I'm currently installing HIDs in my 2010 HB. I did the drivers side but it got too dark so I'll be doing the passenger side tomorrow. right now I'm mounting the ballasts in the engine bay but I think I'm gonna take off the bumper this weekend and put the ballasts somewhere more out of the way. Overall a supereasy project.

Re: Halogen to HID?

Sweet, can you take a pic of where you mount the ballast while you're installing the passenger side? Or better, before you do can you take a pic with both lights on to show the difference before you install the passenger side?

Oh, and what HID kit did you go with? The apexcone or the slim?

Re: Halogen to HID?

I'm having some issues getting my pics uploaded to flickr. Anyway, I put the driver side ballast on top of the fuse box and the passenger side I stuck it on the headlight housing near the radiator, you get about 3/4s of the ballast on the housing using the double sided tape that came with the kit. Zip tied all the wires to keep them from flopping around. I still may relocate them elsewhere, but they seem fine where they are right now.

Re: Halogen to HID?

I mounted my ballasts to the frame right above the headlight housings. You'll see a connector for your auxiliary lights nearby. I bought the slim ballasts from DDM Tuning, and they were able to slip right in that space.

If you need pictures, let me know.

Lows are the 6000k 35w Slim from DDM.
Fogs are the 6000k 35w Apexcone Raptor from DDM.

Easy install. Hard part is figuring out where to mount the ballasts...especially if you don't remove the bumper.
