My unit is a lot slower than what you show in the video. Let's see if the software version you are sending me will make it as fast as your demo.

Also, Eonon, instead of "telling" us what software to use, why don't you guys host software updates / BETAs on your website? Seems like a burden for Eonon to "hand pick" each software upgrade. Simply give instructions on how to figure out what software is compatible with the version of the radio owned and host the files for download.

The idea of this unit looks great. I really wish they'd figure out the slowness of it.

So you need to Wi-Fi tether off your phone for all the features to work I assume?

Yes or a USB hotspot. Otherwise you can download offline maps / run music through an SD card for offline use.

There was a mention here of someone adding another 1GB of memory to these units which made them snappier in multi-tasking. Is there a tutorial/video anywhere on how to do it?

Frankly, I was hoping to get a reasonably fast and trouble-free product for the not-so-low price this unit is selling for. I definitely wasn't planning on becoming a hardware engineer and a ROM developer to get it to work properly...

I'm pretty sure that would require soldering. These (as far as I'm aware) are "System On A Chip". I'm almost positive you can't add additional RAM unless you really know what you're doing. Honestly, if you're content with losing Google Services, it runs pretty well once modified and it's pretty easy to accomplish.

No videos on it from what I'm aware of. It's a very difficult upgrade for the average person. It requires a relatively expensive hot air soldering station and an aligner because the points that must be soldered to the PCB are VERY small. (More or less 1mm across on the points).

Most people who perform this upgrade are very good with soldering, or take it to a professional electronic shop to do it for them. Difficult part is to find one who will do that, as they provide no warranty or guarantee it works.

More information is found over on XDA forums under the MTCB HARDWARE DEVELOPMENT section.

Be warned though if you wish to endeavor. Absolutely breaks Eonon warranty, and must read it thoroughly. Problem is the ram chips that were able to be sourced, are for MTCB/C units. These were the first run through of the GA6163F Apparently. (As mine is MTCC)

but beware that Eonon has decided to switch the motherboards without telling anyone, and calling it the same product. The new run through are MTCD units (as bboucher790 has) And there are reports of the ram chips working with SOME MTCD units and not others.

Bottom line, if you have the MTCD version I'd stay away, if you have the MTCC version I'd hire a professional. It's an absolute joke though dealing with Eonon about warranty issues. 2GB is snappy as hell though.

Side note, the issue seems to be with the 5.1 version, as 4.4 version of android run much faster on the same hardware. only problem is the MTCC units are the only ones that can support 4.4 as MTCD don't have a 4.4 Rom and will brick your device. Another reason why I think it's dumb for Eonon to change the hardware, not say anything, and call it the same product.

Thanks for taking the time to answer in detail! Great info, and nope - I won't be dabbling into RAM upgrade for sure... I'll wait for Eonon to reply to my PM about their software upgrade and see where that gets me... And go from there...

Secondly, that video shows nothing. If you used this radio, you would know the problem revolves around using multiple apps at the same time or when you first boot into the radio. The videos I show are real-world videos and not marketing clips. If you guys want to create a video, create one without editing, from cold boot, in a car, with a camera being directed towards the radio. You guys edit the video after a cold boot before launching Google Maps. I wonder why that is....
Hi bboucher790, OK we will send you the software upgrade by message then.

About the video, we can promise the cold boot up and google maps havenít been edited at all, yes this speed is under the condition that no other extra 3rd party APPs are running. Only the Spotify installation process has been cut a little as this APP is bigger which is not related to our unit actually. Thanks!

I returned the unit to you within a week of receiving the unit (WELL WITHIN the return policy time period). I understand you are coming up to your national holiday Spring Festival, but you've had more than enough time now to submit the refund.

WHERE IS MY FULL REFUND!? You received the unit in your US warehouse almost a week ago and even confirmed via email you received it and I confirmed for you already that I want my refund... but... no refund given still and no response from you after I've sent 3 follow up emails regarding the refund status?!

You are basically stealing from me at this point. I didn't know that Eonon were scammers. Are you thieves or do you want to actually provide a legitimate business service? You can't have both. You need to provide me with my full refund as soon as possible!
Hi Slug, really apologize for the late reply, as we have 5 day Chines New Year Holiday from Jan. 27-31. But our related customer service has tried their best to follow your case soon. Please keep in touch with us with patience.

Secondly, I believe the latest play service is 10.2, here you as displaying version 10.0 which I believe is the stock version you guys ship out?

Don't know if it's been claimed here, but in other forums it's been claimed that stock google service runs fine, and from personal use, stock service is fine.

But in real world usage, people update the play service in order to get the latest google apps. That's when it began to slow down. That's when many people have reported the slow unit, not just on here, but multiple android head unit forums.

Problem is it's a bit of problem not being able to update google play to the latest, because a lot of people would like to use offline google maps, which requires updated services. Same with YouTube app.

So while the video is nicely presented, it still doesn't show real world use, and on top of that, you can see how much the 1gb is an issue, when you show you using google maps, the transitions are not smooth.

Hi davidgotmilk, Iíve mentioned before about the video cut and speed.

About the Google play service, it was the latest version while we manufactured the new version of GA6163F. But itís not the newest version now, as you know google service updates quite often. You guys can upgrade to the Google service 10.2 to have a try. If you still have the slowness issue, we can help you further.

And we may consider about making future units with 2GB of RAM, thanks for your advice!

Hi mazdilak, OK we will send you the software updates once our tech is back to work on Feb. 1, thanks for your patience!

Hi bboucher790, thanks for your advice, itís a really great idea! But the software updates usually depends on the unit version, serial No. and specific problem. For the safety consideration, itís better to send different customers one by one personally in case of any upgrade risk and damage currently. If thereís any common software can be provided in the future, we may consider about publishing it on our website, thanks!

Yah I thought you'd say that, but you've had my return much earlier than Jan. 27 so that is NOT a valid excuse. Also, I got an email from Alice (maybe that was you?) two days ago saying that my refund would be completed within 24 hrs... and guess what... two days later, STILL NO REFUND!

You guys need to get your customer service in order. If you can't make a promise, don't promise it, you're just setting up your customer to be frustrated.

I'd still like my refund. Please and thank you.
