Weird squeaking noise from front end
Hey guys- I have a 2005 Mazda 3i.
I've been noticing a squeak/squeal sound from what sounds like the front of my car as the wheels turn. It changes into more like a grinding sound when the brakes are applied, so I assumed it was the squealers in my pads alerting me that I need new brakes.
I brought it in to a local shop, and they told me that my front brakes have about 50% of the meat still on them, but the rear ones were so gone they had started to chew through the rotors. I could have sworn the sound was coming from the front, but I let them change the rear pads and rotors hoping that was the issue.
Well, the sound is still there. I called the mechanic back and told him I still hear the squeak/squeal, and it still changes when I apply the brakes, and I still think its coming from the front. He told me the rotors might be a little warped in the front, and if I wanted he would change them for me, but he didn't see any reason to until the pads were starting to go as well.
He more or less told me to ignore the sound for now. But I think I want a second opinion on this, as it really sounds like something is going on that I should be concerned about. I did notice that when it rains or gets very cold, the sound sometimes goes away for a bit. I have no idea what to make of this! Any ideas from other Mazda 3 owners?
