I’m having issues with my mazda 3i. I bought it with the AT light on and a bad transmission and it wasn’t moving in any gear at all - would press gas in every gear and nothing - as a project car. I got a new transmission put in it and 3 months later I’m having issues.

A couple of nights ago I accidentally went over a hard mud spot in a driveway and I heard the bottom of the car scrape. I got to the gas station and when I put it in reverse, it jumped and felt like it was grabbing. We pulled back in and checked the fluid. Low. Added some fluid and I believe it all drained out because there is none in it. Drive and gears 1-4 are fine. I lost reverse and then the next morning it was back. No whining noises/grinding etc. No AT light and no CEL. Bad transmission? Or just a sign of low ATF fluid and clogged transmission filter? Or could I have damaged the transmission pan when it scraped the mud spot?

Sounds like you are stating the problem with this sentence. No fluid. Sounds like you damaged the pan or something and it leaked out.

So today since it stopped raining I checked it out. Tightened a bolt that was loose and caused all fluid to drain out. Added some fluid. Gears 1-4 and drive are fine, no delay no jump.

Reverse has a 10 second delay and a jump. Is this a failing shift solenoid?

Could be a bad solenoid or internal trans damage with the parts related to reverse. Any check engine light, trans light or have you pulled any codes?
