True. However, there's other sources other than junkyards. If, it's being sold by a private owner wrecked (Craigslist) or as insurance owned salvage.. should be able to test it thoroughly.

Didn`t say it was the cheapest option, just said it`s what I`d do were I in the same boat.

And FWIW, there shouldn`t be any extra labor to install a different head. It`s gotta come off for the rebuild anyway.

I`m sure there are pros and cons for every option.

Yes. Replacing with another used 2.3L is the least desireable due to their price and possible oil consumption issues. Six months ago I recieved a quote from from a local machine shop to rebuilld a 2.3 and he quoted: starting at $2500.

Glad I could help you with my intake adapter plate kit with your engine swap and answer all your ?'s. Looks like you snapped up a 31K engine nice score. 31K engine I would change nothing on her just pull plugs to check them out give them a cleaning and drop right back in. Make sure you are versed in the Mazda/Ford engine parts that need to be swapped. Good luck with her. Frank

Does the Ford 2.5L use the same plugs as the 08 Mazda 3 2.3? I just replaced the plugs with NGK Laser Iridiums about 10K miles ago. They still have plenty of life left.

I'm having a shop do the swap, I've been working closely with them and also provided printouts of two guides from the forums here for them to reference. I hope everything goes well!

Edit: Just realized that the guides say the Ford plugs are a little longer. Looks like I'll be using the Ford plugs.
