ECU data logging, anyone??

Has anyone been data logging with their car just for kicks?

I want to plug my laptop into the ECU just to see whats going on. I dont own the mazdaspeed, I have the 2.3L(stock, but not for long...), so Im not looking to do any tuning. This is purely for a better understanding of engine and the car as a whole, but HOW???

Which OBDII cable do I need?
Whats a good software to use?

Any info would be appreciated, I dont want to blow anything up! thanks!

i have an ultraguage!
its ncie, but not great.
i wanna know my KR, fuel pressure, oil temps is i can. Id love to be able to log onto the laptop, and save the results to compare say every 3 months. see if anyhting is changing with the car. Also before/after logs would be badass

Personally I use this: http://www.plxdevices.com/product_in...=GSSTBLUETOOTH with the Torque app (pay for it, it's 5 bucks and it has tons more features) on my old cell phone mounted about my radio. You can log tons of data and you can even make graphs with it if you know the slightest bit about excel.

OBDii doesn't do fuel pressure or oil temp fyi.

Back in the day people used to install gauges for stuff they really wanted to monitor I hear...

lol yeah about to say what Potato said..

If the ultragauge doesn't show it, it doesn't exist (to be read). There isn't a sensor for everything in this car; oil pressure being one that I really much dislike, but don't really want to stuff a 4th external gauge in my car somewhere for one lol, or really swap to external oil filters.

Before/after what?
I don't get what you're trying to track I guess.

yep u will need an oBDII interface... im using PLX but there are less expensive ones out there and it comes with a cut down version of scanXL... Im running the full blown scanxl version + Mazda package and basically anything u want to know is there... that said its an expensive option...

U could just get a BT ODBII interface and use torque ( Android ) and it will work great = pretty much perfect

Boosted baby....

BOOSTED

The ordinary scanners will have trouble to find all the pids that the skyactiv cars have.

Ideally the car should not change its values when driving. Unless your clearing the keep alive memory, by disconnecting the battery.

I have a factory scanner, and the innovate lm2, as well mazdaedit. Currently the mazdaedit does not communicate to the skyactiv cars since the pcm is a different manufacturer.

I run a 07 mz3 2.3 manual and with the mazdaedit, Ive raised my rev limiter, adjusted timing, and set the speed govenor to 160. Its fun watching the rpms run past 8k. Ive removed the balance shaft, installed crower rev springs, and a lil bit larger injectors to maintain air/fuel ratio above 7k rpms.

Stock intake, and a magnaflow catback and stock cats still in place. It runs pretty good.

So you have a fast______(your cars name here)????
