Carmax - any luck or not worth it?

The time has come for me to get rid of my speed3. I'm looking into carmax as an option to get rid of it. Right now it's an 09 with 26k miles and in mint condition. Anyone have good/bad experiences with them? What kind of pricing were you able to get relative to the trade in value of your car?

For a car in excellent condition, your best bet is private party. It may take longer but you will most definitely get significantly more cash for it. CarMax, IMO, is only good for unloading a car with some problems they can fix, that you don't want to bother with, since they won't ever give you "excellent" blue book value anyways.

Re: Carmax - any luck or not worth it?

If you're not wiling to go thru the trouble/risk of selling private party, then CarMax is prob your best option.

When i bought my 11 Mazda 3, dealers only offered anywhere from 6500-7300 for my 02 Tacoma.
CarMax offered 8K. Basically you tell them you want your car appraise, and within 30 mins, you'll have your offer. It's a pretty easy process as long as you still have possession of your Title.

Since my Tacoma is worth about 10K selling pvt party, i elected not to trade it in.

Cant hurt to have carmax appraise it. As he said just take it up there they will appraise it within 30 minutes. Amount carmax offers you is good for 7 days.

I'll let you know.. haha. I'm bringing in my 21,000-miles MS3 this weekend (once I stock out a few obvious things) for an appraisal.

I'll be interested to know since ours are pretty much the same just 6k miles different.

I'm hoping to get it there this weekend.. I have to stock out the obvious cosmetic stuff.. but I don't feel like removing all the suspension right now.

Re: Carmax - any luck or not worth it?

I'm planning to stock out my suspension and swap it back onto my 3. I've heard they get pretty picky about mods so the only thing left will be tint.

Yeah, we'll see. The car will be totally stock upon sale regardless of what CarMax says. I'd lose too much money leaving everything on the car.

Re: Carmax - any luck or not worth it?

So I was watching tv last night and Autotrader advertised making offers for tradeins. Figured it was worth a shot so I filled everything out. Got an email 15 mins later offering $15.5. Yeah...no.
