Please advise! Picking up car today; concerns/questions

Hi all, first post. I'm going to pick up a 2006 3 i today but I'm having some reservation about it.

Just a foreword on the situation. Current car is dead, need a vehicle to commute to work reliably.

I just have this feeling the payments I will be making (financing through dealership) are higher than they originally stated. If they happen to try and dick me over that hard what are my options? I'm sure I can just tell them I don't want the car but again, with the situation I'm in, I'd like to just talk the price point down a little further. I'm not locked into anything until I sign the paperwork to take the car off the lot right? And I can get my deposit back?

Sorry if any of these concerns are unfounded/dumb. First time buyer doing what I can with what I've got. Thanks in advance!

Read over the paperwork carefully, and don't be afraid to ask questions until you understand 100% of what's on the purchase and financing agreement. Until you sign the paperwork, you are completely free to walk away from the deal, and the dealer has to give you back your deposit if you ask for it.

If you agreed to X payment per month, and the paperwork shows Y payment instead, push back to at least understand what had changed. You may also want to check with your bank as to what its current rates are on auto loans; you may be able to get a better deal financing through the bank than the dealer. (Many dealers don't offer the best interest rate, as they pad it a little bit to make extra money.)

I know you're worried about the whole car situation, but don't get overly emotional about it -- cover your ass and don't let yourself get sucked into a bad deal.

^ indeed. no signature, no payment. However, in the past, I have found that confidence (and sometimes being a tad rude) can play a huge role in dropping the offered price. I went to a dealership, looked around for a bit with a salesman, listened to all he had to say, and when he was done talking, I just blew him off and said, "I'm going to look elsewhere," for no reason. They dropped 3k off the price right then and there Ended up buying it from him the next day after some more discounts.

Thanks for the tips! I went to the dealer with a little more confidence and things started tipping more in my favor. Got a few thousand off the original deal and some additional packages.

First time driving stick but I'm excited!
