Pre Purchase Question

Hi,

May have to finally replace the 02 civic with 320,000 miles. I drive till they die.

I have worked through several cars and have settled on a 3 hatchback. Have a few questions: the skyactiv engine seems to be a noticeable upgrade - true? I am aware that skyactive starts in the 2012 I, then 2014 in the S. Do they require synthetic oil? Not buying brand new, I can't justify the massive depreciation.

Car and Driver did not seem to notice a big power difference between the I and the S. Looking for comments on performance I vs S. I drive mostly on curvy country roads.

thanks

I can't believe this question never got answered. I own a 2006 Mazda3 and it has 103k miles which is low for the year model. I bought it new. I also have a 2002 Chev Silverado that only has 65k miles. Anyway I am considering buying a new 3 or 6 but don't see much activity on this site for recent models. Is there another site people have gone to or has everyone just lost interest here? I have no idea for the answer to your question but would like to hear what people think of the newer model 3 and if anyone has tried or compared the new 3 to the 6? I really like my 3 and it has been pretty much trouble free. I did just have a major problem occur for me though when I took the drain plug out of the radiator to drain and change. The plug would not screw back in! It was like the threads inside the radiator disappeared. I had to get someone to tap and rethread and silicone a new bolt in there. Terrible experience for me.

As I understand it, folks would rather participate in social media sites than muck around with forums. That said, there are still a few of us who like the flexibility of the old forum model, especially the ability to search for stuff.

Regarding the new Mazda3 and Mazda6 models; my wife and I bought a new Mazda3 s GT 5-Door 6-Speed Manual last year; per the Owner's Manual, Mazda specifies 0W-20 oil, a grade of oil which other than one offering from Honda, is exclusively a synthetic oil. For my part, I've started buying Mazda's branded 0W-20 oil with a high Moly content to use in her car (our dealer uses Castrol 0W-20).
