Question Interesting Marketing Strategy

I recently inquired about the compatability of the Kindle Fire for my 2014 Mazda3 GTS. It has a text to speech for some of the books I have downloaded and I have some music on it. This was the reply.
"At this time, we currently test with the major carriers and unfortunately do not test with Amazon. Should Amazon be interested in having their devices tested, they should contact us in order to begin the process."

I may be crazy but I would think that there are a fair amount of Kindle users and this would be a segment of the population that might be a source of new car buyers. Shouldnt Mazda reach out to Amazon rather than the other way around? If any of the people in Corporate at Mazda or Amazon read this post, I would be gald to discuss my views.

Consider the cost of developing a Kindle compatible system. Then consider the number of Kindle users who would like to use such a system. Then consider users who are basing their car buying decisions on the inclusion of this feature. (relatively few)

Alternatively, consider the increase in price of the final, across the board product due to this increased development cost. Then consider the number of price-sensitive buyers who base their economy car buying decisions on price. (relatively many)

It's too risky for Mazda to undertake this on their own. Amazon, to my knowledge, hasn't attempted to implement this feature in any vehicle, never mind an economy vehicle. (Higher price bracket, feature hungry users haven't demanded this feature and, therefore, have not ponied up for the development costs. Until they have, we have no chance of seeing this feature trickle down to lower priced vehicles.)

While I totally understand the points you have made here, I dont belive that a fully loaded Grand Touring S at approx $27,000-$30, still qualifies as a "economy" car. Also I was just pointing out that there are probably a lot of people who would consider the Mazda 3 versus the Ford or Toyota brand cars if they could use their Kindle. In this day of competiveness, every edge you can get is important.

I hear you. Remember though, Mazda is struggling financially. Also, my girlfriends Honda Fit (sub-econo box) cost $18k out the door and my BRZ (entry level sports car) cost nearly $29k. Economy cars are no longer sub-$20k...

This, inflation sucks.

Besides, with all the money Mazda is sinking into next generation drivetrains and chassis, I imagine they're looking for competitive advantage in fuel economy/power/refinement rather than being able to connect to every little new gadget that'll win them a small market share.

There may be a lot of Kindles out there, but how many people would pay extra to be able to have their Mazda read to them on the drive to work?

2007 Phantom Purple hatch; JBR RMM/busihgs/shifter plate, Koni STR.t's, Michelin Pilot AS3's, Spin on oil filter conversion, stubby antenna, Kenwood KDC-X997 hu + Sundown Audio SA12 + Infinity speakers + JL 320.4 amp, debadged and door edge guards removed, Lamin-X + indy fog mod, aluminum AC knobs, DIY SRI, TRS 5000K HIDs, more coming.

As a Kindle owner I never thought of this. And now that I have I'm not that interested. I don't want to listen to books while driving. I don't even want to listen to people talking while driving. Just play me some music and shut up.

However I think you can do what you want anyway. I'm thinking you should be able to pair your BT on the Kindle with the 3. (assume Kindle Fire HD or similar that have Bluetooth) Let the audio stream via Bluetooth similar to how you would have done with any other Android phone.
