New guy needing some advice quick

hello everyone i am brand new to this forum. i have been a long time member on 6thgenaccord.com, and i think i may be joining the mazda 3 family.
basicly i have a 2001 honda accord Ex v6 auto trany. the tranny just went out on me a few days ago and for what its going to cost to fix id rather buy another car which leads me to why im here and posting this.

basicly i found a 2006 mazda 3 i, the 2.0 basic model steel rims and manual windows and side mirrors, no power =(. it has 87k miles on it and the dealer that i found it at is asking 8800, but i talked him down to 7750. so my questions are, is this to much to pay for the base model, even if its from a really good dealership (CPO honda dealer) ? and also, what is the reliability like on these cars, mainly the 2.0 ? ive been a honda guy for years so i have no real knowledge of mazdas. i know there was a recall for them in 2009 other than that i dont know squat. and what kind of milage can i expect to get out of it before the tranny or motor needs to be rebuilt? and how much is the 100k miles maintence going to cost ? because i know its going to be need.

thanks to you all in advance

Welcome to the Forum Intel. The reliability on the gen 1 Mazda 3's is pretty darn good. Up there with the Honda reputation. If treated well, they'll last you for a long time. As for the 100k service, it's going to range depending on if you're going to a dealer, or Indy mechanic. You would be able to get a better deal on a car (more options) if you go with a private party over going to a dealer. Either way, I would spend a little bit of money and get a Pre-Purchase Inspection from someone that is knowledgeable of the Mazda 3's, so you know what the problems are for that individual car.

well i trust the dealer over a private party seller because this is a huge dealer ship, and they have the carfax and a 120 point inspection with all there cars before there put up for sale. and it has a warrenty of like 7 days to return it at no charge.
i guess my question is , will this car last me to 200k miles before something major goes ? im not looking to mod it at all, and im not looking to drive it like its a GTR-35......

is this an auto transmission as well?
that would be the weak link (imo) if the fluid was not changed a couple times already.
often if people have atx issues, we find out that they haven't changed the fluid or waited until over 50k to do it. the manual doesn't specify any interval for that, so if people ignore the dealership recommendations (which are often BS), they may pay for that later. i recommend 30K intervals.
