Help convince me on the 2010

Hi everyone. First time poster here. I was hoping to get some thoughts on the '10 Mazda3.

I love Mazdas and have been shopping for the 2010 Mazda3 GT as a new vehicle for my wife (she loves them too) since I first learned about the redesign. I myself have driven Miatas for the last 12 years, but I bought the first model of the second gen Miata (99) and ended up learning about the quirks (check engine light being one) that the first-year redesign was plagued with that were subsequently changed in later years.

Thing is, we definitely have to buy a new vehicle in the next few months and I have a good relationship with my Mazda dealer who will give me a good price. I've been just about to pull the trigger when I had second thoughts. I'm a little concerned about the first year redesign esp. w/the new 2.5L engine. Then I read the forums and see a few folks with CEL issues. I'm thinking maybe I should just buy something a couple years old and wait for '11 or '12, but I really don't want to. I'm impatient!

The 2010 has been out a while now. What are the general thoughts on real quirks that need to be worked out?

Re: Help convince me on the 2010

I think quite a few people on here have been having trouble with random check engine lights on their 2010s. I can't say that for certain it's a serious problem, as I have a 2008 and have only driven one 2010 for a short period of time. First year vehicles of any manufacturer tend to have quirks, but I'm not sure how serious the 3 would be...since it's basically a re-skin of a platform that was already in use with the first gen 3s.

Re: Help convince me on the 2010

Only issues I've heard of with the check engine light on 2010 have been for those with the CS SRI before they fixed it with the air straightener.

My car was built in December 08, purchased in July 09 and have had 0 problems so far. Love it.

Re: Help convince me on the 2010

You should know that most people that gets a CEL (1st gen and 2nd gen) is because they're just careless. They may not want to admit it, but most random CEL comes from people not sealing the fuel tank with the fuel cap properly.

Thanks everyone. Nice to know that there are a lot of happy drivers with trouble-free '10s.

I have to warn you though, the 3s with its 2.3/2.5l engine shouldn't be considered as an econo-box, because it drinks gas like cool-aid.
