If you've got a thermometer, I would encourage you to find out what the temp readings on your Mazda 3 is -- or your other car, so we can compare.

Make sure you can have some accuracy -- don't use a turkey or plant thermometer.* I used an actual scientific thermometer to get my readings.* You can get a thermometer at Wal-Mart, most auto shops, or many other places.

First off, put the thermometer in the car and get the ambient temperature readings.* This is before you start the car.* DON'T put the thermometer in direct contact with sunlight, metal, etc.* Putting it on the seat or floor is perfect.* Wait a bit for it to even out, and then get the reading and write it down (it's easy to forget).

Next, start your car, put the AC on maximum, and let it cool for ten to fifteen minutes.* Don't open your windows -- that's cheating.* Then, put the thermometer inside of your vent, or directly over your driver's side vent.* Wait two minutes or so and then take the reading.* Check the other vents too and make sure there isn't a significant difference.

Tell us what color your car is, if it was in the shade or direct sunlight, and also give us your zip code or city/area so we can see what the normal temp is like there.

Most importantly, be truthful.
[/quote]

That's way too much crap, you're missing the point, bottom line is get the temp of the other car's AC as it comes out of the vent, after the Ac has been cranked for 10 minutes (shoudl be cold) then do the same with the mazda.* I don't car how far down the car will get to you care about how cold the air is coming out of the source.* My second car is a minivan, after 15 minutes of cooling even the mazda with it's crappier cooling will be cooler because there's less physical space to cool.

The best thing to do is get a laser pointer temp gauge.* They are wekkid pricey but you can aim at at cold air and it will give you a reading.* I've used on on my house vent before, once with heat on and then with teh AC on.* My house had like a 25 degree temp difference which is good.

just aim it at the vent and get the temp, i'd be willing to bet that the AC in teh mazda is 5-10 degree warmer then my van.* Even my Dad's Camry was super cold. so cold it almost hurt to sit iin front of it.* My mazda isn't nearly as good as that thing, no way.* I'll see if I can borrow a laser pointer temp guage from somewhere.* Try to get one your self also.

Re: 2005 Air Conditioing sucks / poor AC / weak AC

Truthfully, I think the best bet is to go in and test drive a vehicle on a pretty hot day. Since it's still summer, us new car buyers are lucky enough to be able to make sure the AC is up to par.

In fact, you might as well pick a hot day to actually buy the car. So before you shell out the money and sign any papers, chill (hehe) in the car for a while. Make sure it feels good for you. It might not be able to keep beer cold as well as other cars, but if it's comfortable, then there's no reason to pass up such a great car.

Re: 2005 Air Conditioing sucks / poor AC / weak AC

I live in Southern California and recently it has been pretty hot. Whenever I turn on the AC is starts blowing cold air in under 20 seconds, and gets the cool frosty pretty quickly. It is a lot more affective than the AC on my Dads Explorer.

However, I do have an SP23 which probably has the diffuser plate, and the pollen filter installed. So that may aid the AC a little.

Hey CodeMonkeyX, thanks for the info!

Could you possibly do a temp reading, or verify that the diffuser is installed? I know verifying the diffuser is a lot of work, so doing a temp reading would be easy in comparison.

Heck, I'll Paypal you the $5 to go to buy an accurate thermometer to take the reading.

Re: 2005 Air Conditioing sucks / poor AC / weak AC

holy hell, i just spent 2 years reading this thread. My 3 takes a little while to cool down but i have never really complained. I live in tx and its gets hot as hell here! I have a sunlight silver S and a good metallic tint and I am never too hot more than i would be in another car and I certainly would have bought the car despite the longer cool time.

mine is a 2005 that i have had for a couple of months, so not sure if they fixed the problem on mine or if it has the problem. not really in the mood to waste time takin temps in my car, if its hot and you can't stand it on your test drives, go test some other cars, or wear shorts, lol

good luck with the hunt, but i am in love with my 3 and wouldn't trade it for any other make in the same class

Someone in this forum once said that you shouldn't turn the A/C to 3 or 4 on a hot day. Instead, you should open the window and turn to 2 for a while, that will cool your car signifiantly.

Re: 2005 Air Conditioing sucks / poor AC / weak AC

I've heard that you should wlways open the windows a little bit say for the first 3-5 minutes to help get the heat out of the car and not turn the A/C on right away, or if you do, don't blast it. It's tough on the compressor especially if you have it on re-circ and it's pulling 130degree heat out of your cabin, trying to cool it down, then pump it back into the cabin.

But I think the temp out of the vents is what is important not how we should cool the cabin down

That's what I said above:

just aim it at the vent and get the temp,
If you want to help your compressor that's what I heard to do is all =D
