MS3 vs. MS6 vs. something else - suggestions appreciated!

Hey everyone!

So I owned an '07 MS3 for about 7 years before (stupidly) trading it for a high mileage M5. The M5 had a bunch of hidden problems (did I mention this was stupid?) so I traded it in for a '16 Scion FR-S. I love the FR-S, but I need something with four doors as I might be starting a family in the near future. I have an NB Miata as a weekend car, so the FR-S is redundant at this point.

I need something with 4 doors, but I don't want to entirely give up having some fun with the car. The MS3 was an amazing car and I miss that turbo feeling so much, but I'm also open to trying something new. So far, I've narrowed it down to three options and I would love some input (especially on the MS6 option)

Option 1A: Gen1 MS3 (least new to me, but I know I love this car)
Option 1B: Gen2 MS3 (a bit newer, would also be a new experience)
Option 2: MS6 (I love the look and I found one locally for a good price ($6k with 58k miles) but I've heard some nightmares about reliability with these and I don't really want to pour thousands into whichever car I buy
Option 3: 2004-2008 Acura TL (I know its not a Mazda, but I absolutely love the look of these and they come in manual which is also a must)

Anyone have some experience / opinions to share? Thanks!

Given my wife and I have owned two Mazda3 versions (Gen 1 and Gen 3), we also own a 2006 TL (all three cars have/had three pedals under the dash), our son has had not one, but two NA Miatas (the second of which had a Flyin' Miata kit on it) which I've driven extensively, and a co-worker of mine used to own an MS6, I may be uniquely qualified to offer some comments germane to your current dilemma. Here they are in no particular order:
  • If you opt for any of the MazdaSpeed cars, expect a turbo replacement if one has not already been performed on the car.
  • The MazdaSpeed6 and the 2006 TL 6MT are pretty closely matched in all aspects, with the acceleration edge going to the MS6.
  • Parts availability for the MazdaSpeed cars, especially the 6, especially the unique body parts, is getting real thin; parts availability for the TL is extremely rich and robust as Acura sold a whole bunch of them.
  • If you are lucky enough to find a 2007 or 2008 TL Type-S 6MT which hasn't been beat to death, then acceleration will be pretty much identical between that and the MS6, however, expect to pay a significant premium for such cars. One went earlier this year on BringATrailer for over $15,000.
  • When choosing between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 MS3s, I'd opt for the Gen 1, if for no other reason than the steering feel is so much sweeter on the first gen cars.
  • If you do a lot of highway driving, the TL wins hands down.
  • If you encounter a lot of snow and other slippery conditions, the MS6 wins every time.
  • If longevity is important to you, the TL wins this one as well, I think it is the very rare MazdaSpeed which sees the far side of 200,000 miles, I personally know four folks with over 300,000 miles on their TLs (all with 6MTs), one has over 500,000 miles.
