What would you do in my situation? Need real advice!

Ok, I know there are lot of good financially wise people out here (mazda is great car so I would say most are

So basically I had my mazda 3 2008 from the beginning and it's at 175k miles. For first time, going in for oil change I see the dealer mentioning more fixups then normal (4 shocks and some valve oil cover or something). They estimated 4 shocks to be installed w/parts to be around 1500k. But mentioned that i should look into getting a used or new car instead (with a wink..lol)

So here is my situation. I have been saving up for a condo each year and didn't realize I might have to get a new car after today's visit. I work full time doing ux/ui design for a midsize company and drive amazon flex for date funds. I truly like doing amazon flex and driving around is very therapeutic for me.

So wondering some options I have as I know my beloved mazda3 (going on 11 years lol) may need some action.

Option 1. Trade in the car immediately and just get new car (looking at bmw x2 or 3 treat myself or waiting 11 years) and put condo in back burner for another 2-3 years . I live in Seattle and housing is astronomically high. Currently paying 1500 for rent but walking distance to work and car is garaged. (But i still drive a lot so car is needed). But I probally won't do amazon flex if I get new car.

Option 2, trade in for used car , continue amazon flex and go for condo (least by next nov).

So , I hang out with lot of like tennis people since I play lot of tennis and being Korean descent, we have this kind of high expectation on our rides. So no one really gave me slack for my mazda etc but seeing my new car is a big choice seems, they are expecting i come out with some higher end model. Yeah it's pretty messed up but I dont know why it effects me lol so don't give me heat about this

Anyways, Just wish cars never broke down cause I really like my mazda3 !!!

So as mentioned my car has 175k and has it shared of accidents . Regardless of option should I sell this asap private or too dealorship (carmax seems pretty bad lol). I think I'll be getting like price of a nice gokart but not sure if keep it until it breaks down or let it go..

Like if letting it go for like 4k etc.. how many months does that equate to if keeping? Just wondering if maybe it will go another 100k

Valve cover gasket/rear struts is pretty easy to replace $350.00 parts. The front ones take a bit longer $400.00 parts. Your car is in better shape, than most used (abused) cars. The cheapest house in Vancouver $1,000,000. cdn/Condo 600sqf $650k

$1500 seems excessive
but if you buy a secondhand car for $6000 your first service might be worse than this
for $1500 you have a car you know is reliable and
i would have the work done elsewhere and keep the car

Lol if the "Stealership" aka Dealership quoted you on stuff that needs to be fixed they are prob lying!...Go to a different shop and get a 2nd opinion or 3rd too!

If there are car repairs its best to fix yourself if you are Mechanically skilled w/ tools etc.

The main question: are you mechanically inclined at all? If so, there's no reason to get rid of your car. Using KYB Excel G's. which ride and handle exactly like OEM, but at 1/3rd the cost, new rear shocks and front struts will run under $200 for everything. A Fel-Pro valve cover gasket is like $30.

This is seriously like $250 give or take in repairs if you can do the work yourself.

Get a second opinion. The odds of all four shocks/struts going bad over one oil change period and you not noticing a change in the ride is very slim though at 175K miles it isn't out of the question, I had to replace my rear shocks at around 80K miles though the fronts are still fine at 121K. Not to mention, unless labor is abnormally high in your area $1500 is insane for 4 shocks/struts and a valve cover gasket.

Thank you mr.b I realized you responded to my panic messages and eased me with your with your knowledge and advice

But when you mean 350 and 400. So I will be using 750 for the valve cover gasket/ rear struts?

Or is there some aftermarket that can cut that lower.

So that's the right part seeing from the notes mazda gave right.. didnt realize how much these unknown parts are!

Yeah I really wanna keep my mazda 3 .. it had some good memories and felt horrible i got accident and almost feel this car has a soul lol.. question is let say in keep this car and just fix the shocks (someone mentioned I can get cheaper shocks at 200 or something.. not sure if its each or total)、belt drive、 some valve.cover and left cv axle boot.

How many more miles you think I can get .. 177k miles now and I think I googled that 200k miles is average or something. I know it all depends but would be nice if it can go another 177 k and it will be a keeper for me.. I dont care about my tennis buddies driving luxury rides... as they say people get things to impress people they dont like lol anyways.

Yeah always best to do yourself if you know what your doing but I'm somewhat mechanixlaly inclined. Is installing exhaust up to par for doing other things?

As for opinions if i go to any mechanic shops will they more often then not check for free? That seems to take time too so I'll have to just get few more opinions
