Stupid Coyote

I have a 2005 Mazda3...

So it's foggy out, and dark, and apparently someone killed a coyote on the highway. So i'm driving along on the 4 lane highway, passing this truck, and I happen to see it.. right in front of me, it's icy out here on the shoulders, the other lane had a large truck... and with little time to react.. under my car it went. At 120 km/hr

Let's try a picture...

Ok so it went under my car in the front (green arrow) and amazingly did zero visible damage to the front. The pink and grey parts are coyote parts.. guts and fur (possibly tail) to be exact.
The picture on the right is an underside view where I could describe what happened better with pictures. The plastic engine protector is ripped to shreds in the front, and is currently partially hanging down and drags on the ground. The coyote guts were hanging over top of a metal bar in the middle.. the bar was bent and twisted pretty good.. my car actually went up a bit so it probably got pushed up right there.

So tomorrow I take her to the dealership. I washed the guts away (talk about fun.. hanging guts I had to use the wand at the car wash to try and push it off the bar. Not with the water either since it wasn't enough.. had to physically push it) I left the guts at the car wash, but left some extra money for a tip.

Hopefully it's not too damaged.. just looks like some minor metal pieces bent, the plastic pieces missing or ripped away and stuff. And it's still got some blood and stuff dripping down. Yum.

Velocity Red...that's hot. Can't see you through the tinted windows though

Seriously though, between the icy conditions and the truck, sounds like you did the only thing you could. Otherwise, things could have ended up worse.

As for the car, hope it's not too bad. If you don't hear or feel anything strange, especially at speed, and you don't see any fluids leaking, you're probably not looking at major damage, but who knows how much they'll want to replace that bar.

That's wild! My wife just hit a coyote yesterday morning on the way to work in our 2005 Honday Odyssey. She had to stop and drop it off at a dealer on the way, where they found the coyote still lodged in the radiator! They took digital pictures and put it on a CD, which I still have yet to see. Did $2000 in damage to the minivan. I guess these two coyotes aren't "super geniuses!"

That front splash shield will run you $151 from the dealership, I believe.

The side under-flaps are $14 as well if you need those.

I have to replace mine too ... good times.

The plastic tray directly below the filter has been known to crack easily. So maybe I would avoid replacing it at this time due to snow and ice build up.
