i live in canada and no matter how fast i shift and how i launch i only get 7 seconds for 0-60.

i rev till 3000rpm then let go of clutch quickly and get appropriate wheelspin and off i go. I dont dump the clutch when taking off. After that, shifting is very quick and decisive.

I got 235 wide tires and got good amount of grip. It has factory cai. I do live in canada and my city altitute is 2200ft. Will altitute make 1 sec difference?

You do know that those factory numbers are obtained by professional drivers right? And when magazines review the cars, their numbers are probably done by professional drivers too?

Why does it matter to you how fast the car do in 0-60? If manufacturer 0-60 was your deciding factor with the car, then you bought the wrong car and you'll probably keep buying the wrong car.

I was merely wondering if altitute can cause tat much of a difference or is there something wrong with the car. The times is not why i got this car

Some other factors to consider:

-Ambient air temperature
-Pavement surface condition and temperature
-Tire choice and temperature (do you warm-up the tires by doing a burnout before trying to do a 0-60 run?)

0-60 is a decent measure of a car's acceleration, but it's not the be-all end-all it's made out to be.

Hmm i agree. Ambient was 2C, no burnouts, pavement is similar to ambient temp and it was dry w/o any dirt on it. Tire highway driven before peeling off and i think it wouldnt be warm when i started peeling off. Will you guys say given the conditions 7 seconds is reasonable with lower air density at that altitute? I say its plausible

At 2 Celsius, I can't imagine the OEM, or any other summer tires you may be rocking are gripping the ground. They're more like hockey pucks in the cold.

Well there's your problem! You can try waiting till afternoon on a sunny day so the pavement is at its warmest, and try doing some burnouts to get some heat in the tires like a drag racer, but in those ambient temperatures I can't imagine those tips shaving off more than a couple more tenths of a second. Your times should improve as the temperatures warm up.

For NA (Normally Aspirated) cars, air density, and thus HP, falls off about 3% for every 1000 ft above sea level. So at 2200 ft your ~6.6% down on HP, or ~10 HP depending on your engine - not sure if your a 2.0 or 2.3.

Also I believe most 1/4 mile times (and maybe 0-60 also) you see are adjusted for elevation.

Rear Motor Mount. The stocker is not that great.

I really think you should learn more about the car before you try anymore 0-60...

i hear the tranny mount is weak. The rmm is just that annoying wheelhop right? The side motor mounts are oil filled and prown to breakin? I learned a bit :)

I have an 08" Speed and i dont even bother getting any performance when the temp. is that cold. You said 2C or 35-36F, i notice a huge performance decrease under 40F and above 75F. Turbocharged engines are very sensitive to temp. , like AtomSphere said, wait till it warms up, you'll notice a big difference in performance.

It always irked me that 2nd gear redlines at 55mph on the 'speed 3. If they had made the gears just a little taller, first gear might actually be usable and you'd save an entire shift on your way to 60.

or it could have something to do with the wider heavier tires he has... Just a suggestion... Along with the elevation, the fact it's a professional driver, and that you may be shifter too late or too early. These factors would yield 1 second extra plus easy. Oh and mazdaspeed's do not like cold weather contrary to popular belief.

Cold ambient temperatures create fuel atomization issues.

EDIT: Clarified my last statement.

Do DI engines have fuel atomization issues?
