Yet another tranny discussion

just have a question that i dont recall seeing asked here.

when you guys are losing your transmission, is it when you are going into gear at speed or after you're in gear and making power like you're doing a 60 punch?

just trying to get an idea of what to look for and what kind of precautions can be taken while driving.

yeah but was it when you went into the next gear or did you go into the next gear fine and then it broke because it couldn't handle the power?

Re: Yet another tranny discussion

I believe it's when they are in gear and punch it, which then shaves the teeth off of the gear/s.

Re: Yet another tranny discussion

ya mine along with evryone elses is when u are in gear allready and punching it. So its because of power, and not because of hard shifting + instant power.

Re: Yet another tranny discussion

I'll jump in and throw the monkey wrench in!

No problems with mine.
That being said I think it is a defect/driver problem than anything.
There are also non-turbo Mazda3s with tranny failures too.

I have just as much power if not more then everyone that has broken the tranny.
I have never dumped the clutch or done burn outs.
Always feather the clutch on a hard launch and always power shift 1st thru 3rd gear.

Had the AWR rear mount installed before the tranny and have had a engine torque damper on various times for testing.

Been on the dyno up too 14psi a few times and once on the road. Before the 3" down pipe and logging injector duty cycle I was at a daily 10 - 12psi.

Just recently switched to Redline Lightweight ShockProof and it is notchier but feels fine.

My car has been on the dyno about 20 times and at the track about 50 before the turbo.

Seems it will be a hit and miss if it will break or not. But I don't see a pattern unless you want to call my car a freak.
