2007 Mazda 3 AT Issue
A few weeks ago, got in 2007 Mazda 3 and started it up like normal. Put in reverse and felt strong jolt. Noticed AT light on dash. Also, noticed car was apparently in limp mode as the accelerator pedal was non-responsive. Read the codes and got a P0123 - Throttle position sensor.
To my knowledge, this car does not have a separate TPS, it is part of the throttle body. Please let me know if that is incorrect. I removed the throttle body and cleaned it thoroughly. Also, noticed that the black plastic housing on one end was cracked, but not separated. Put it back on the car, cleared the codes, disconnected the battery for about 30 mins, then started it up. Same issue.
Thinking something must be wrong with throttle body, I put a new one on. Cleared the codes, disconnected battery for several minutes, then started it up. Same issue.
Read something about the input speed sensor on the transmission being a potential issue. Replaced it, cleared the codes, disconnected battery, started it up. Same issue.
Not sure where to go next. Would like to think that tranny is not toast, but not sure now. The car is not driveable. No accelerator response until you get past about 80% to the floor. Feel like I would get killed trying to drive it somewhere to get checked out. Towing is an option, but would be a waste if it is truly the transmission, as the car would basically be totaled. 2007 with 190k miles on it. Would like to keep driving it if I can fix it, but hope is beginning to fade.
Appreciate any ideas you have. Anyone ever experienced this?
