Default speaker size 2010 mazda3 without bose 4-speaker

I'm having trouble finding out the speaker size for my 2010 mazda3 without bose 4-speaker. I would take a look myself but the door panel removal seems like a project. Is anyone 100% sure of the speaker size? Has anyone replaced the factory speakers? If so, did you use a different size speaker with an adapter or the same? What width would I be able to fit in there? I think I'm only replacing the front speakers, one of which is blown.. Also getting a new head unit with an amp to power up those front speakers.
Any info on this topic would be great.

they are likely 5x7/6x8 but in any case, 6.5 round speakers will fit with adapters and will be your best choice with the most options.

When I said width, I really meant depth. I heard many speakers will not fit because there isn't much depth in those doors. Does anyone know what depth I could fit in there? I was looking at speakers and some were 2 3/8" and some were 1 3/4". The deeper speakers were more powerful and seemed better but I'm worried it won't fit.

from what i've seen, the stock speakers have a thick stand-off or riser (a spacer) to increase mounting depth.
check out this thread...http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=158293.0
it's a bose equipped car, but the doors are the same.
you might need to use a thick adapter but that should accommodate most speakers.

I recently completed my 2010 3 hatch, and according to forums (amazingly not this one, but two others) you NEED 1" risers for the front (when using 6.5s)... NOT the case. 1/4" did fine for me. depending on the size of the 6.5s magnet diameter would be the most likely concern. I didnt take measurements, but did take plenty of pictures... and for the back the adapters alone work, and you have plenty of room.

what I needed
4 SA68 plates
2 1/4" spacers for 6.5s (had them from previous install)
dampening (kill any possibility of adapter/spacer plate vibrations)

also.......fyi: gj6a-68-ab1 is the mazda part# for the door clips, its not if you break them, its for when you break them

and the speakers should go in fine.

WINDOWS DOWN WHEN YOU INSTALL SO YOU CAN BE POSITIVE

adapter

riser

viola!

not too deep, still 3/16" gap to window/metal on side

you will lose stock tweeters unless you jump the lefts and rights of the mazda 4pin together when splicing for the aftermarket speakers from the center... not getting any more into wiring here... maybe a howto in a few days/weeks/months...

What is the wiring like back there?

Is there a need for a lot of splicing? Or is it a simple plug and play with after market speakers?

gotta splice the wires, and drill a hole through the plastic somewhere (as the factory connectors on the speakers are on the outside). I can say with 99.9% certainty that your aftermarket speakers connectors will be inside the door.

its pretty simple if you're using the factory plugs, just splicing in the wires... I did the 9v test on the factory speakers to find the + and - im going to try and mspaint this
