Hi all,
Been off for awhile. No issues since the turbo replace, knock on wood. Been getting a noise from the front end lately. kind of like a 'whueh whueh' rubbing noise if that makes it easier for you . happens when wheel is turned tight, not quite all the way, and when moving slowly, in gear (0-5 kmph). It seems to correspond with each rotation of a tire. It often happens in situations such as when turning through parking lots, starting off after backing out of a laneway etc. It happens more when turning right, but also when turning left. Brakes are stock with good life left. Winter tires and rims have been on for awhile with no issues. Suspension is stock, car has around 55,000kms on it. It doesn't sound like CV joints (click click noise you would get in tight turns), and pretty sure it is not the brakes. Anyone else experience this sound? Wanted to tap into the database of experience here before the dealer quickly blames it on my winter tires. Thanks!

Have you had the transmission fluid flushed recently? Happen to use synthetic fluid?

I can't recall whether it makes it in neutral or not. like to say yes, but will have to test.
I did have the gear oil changed to synth recently, but the noise did not start right after. it does seem to be getting louder and occuring more often since the change. I can't remember having this sound before the gear oil was changed. Does this car need an additive when using synth in the tranny? I thought of wheel bearing/hub as well. I am sure the dealer won't be able to figure that out if it is as it is so intermittent. Thanks, will keep everyone posted if and when I bring it to the dealer to check it out.

Yes, it's almost certainly the synthetic trans fluid. The LSD doesn't like it at all without a friction modifier.

I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering exactly what "friction modifier" is needed to add to the tranny. I did a tranny fluid change about a year ago with Redline MT-90, and I think I'm hearing the same noise the OP is describing (my wife usually drives the car...I've only been driving it for the last couple weeks). I originally thought it was coming from the power steering pump, but this seems to fit the symptoms.
I see that Finish Line sells Redline 75w90 Diff Fluid ("with friction modifiers" , could I just top off the tranny with some of that? Thanks in advance.

My car is just starting to do this. On cold starts (the first U-turn I make). I'm at ~26,000miles and still on factory fluid, so I'm assuming it's time to flush it?
