Default Will replacing one front tire on a MS3 be bad for the car?

I hit a pothole and the front right wheel and tire (12k miles) are being replaced on my 2009 MS3. I don't know yet what the shop is doing about rotation etc but likely they'll just take the old one off and put a new one on. I'm thinking the difference in circumference on the two front tires might cause the LSD some issues, does anyone have any experience or advice on what I should ask the shop to do.

My thought is rotate front to back and put the new tire on the rear axle?

How many miles were on the old tires? I would definitely be concerned about that, and keep the new tire on the rear. Or insist on getting both front tires replaced together for that reason.

In the end I had the rears moved to the front and the remaining front moved to the rear alongside the new one, so the mismatch is on the rear axle. The front tires were getting quite worn, I'm a little disappointed they've worn so much (<12k miles so far, oh and a day of auto-x probably didn't help either!) I guess that's the price you pay for the grip.

How many times had they been rotated? The big alignment and suspension design differences between the front and rear (and not to mention not even close to a 50/50 weight distribution) make frequent rotation CRUCIAL for even tire wear on these cars.

Yeah good point, they were rotated at 4k, just before I did the auto-x but haven't been done since. I'll have to keep an eye on that now, thanks for the heads-up.

Dang, I have an OEM MS3 tire in my garage that is in good shape. I would have given it to you. It probably would have matched your existing tires well.
