Default AC Compressor Pulley Noise (with video)

I'm sorry if this has been covered but the topics I found on search didn,t sound the same as what I have.

Something has gone very wrong with my AC compressor, or compressor pulley. It started making a mild grinding/bearing noise this summer and has gotten very much worse now that the fall is here and I'm actually driving it every day (drive the miata in the summer).

My mechanic says replace the whole compressor, but the problem is that Mazda seems to sell the compressor and the pulley seperately and they're each pretty pricy. So the question is do I need the compressor, or the pulley/clutch or both?

Here's a video of start up and then engaging the AC:

My next question was gonna be can I just remove the belt.  I didn't get my head far enough in there to confirm it was a dedicated belt.

How is it tensioned? Id prefer to keep the belt for now.

its not tensioned persay, Im not sure if there is an easier way im pretty sure you just have to loosen the whole a/c compressor. You may be able to do it with a butter knife but you run the risk of ruining the belt.

So you mean there is no tensioner and the tension is in how the compressor is mounted. I'll pop the under tray off and figure it out. Thanks.
