Default How To: Change Spark Plugs on your MS3

Hey Everyone,

I was searching on how to change my spark plugs and noticed there hasn't been one done yet. I know some say that it's fairly easy but I wasn't too sure myself. So here are my step-by-step pics on how to do it. Hopefully it can be of help for people like myself who are doing it for the first time.

In order to begin, start of by disconnecting the Negative Battery Terminal.

Tools needed:
10mm socket
12mm socket
8mm socket
Pliers
Denso Iridium ITV22 (Purchased from StreetUnit)
Phillips Screwdriver (Optional)

First you will need to take off the plastic cover which is held on by two 10mm bolts

Once the cover is off, there are Three tubes that need to be loosened. One connected to the Front and One to the Rear of the Intercooler. They are held by Clamps that can be loosened by a 10mm Socket or Phillips Screwdriver. The Third one is connected to the BOV and can be loosened by a pair of Pliers.

Front Tube

Rear Tube

BOV

After the tubes have been loosened, you can now remove the Three 12mm bolts that hold the Intercooler in place.

Two bolts upfront:

One bolt in the rear:

You should now be able to remove the Intercooler revealing the Valve Cover and Spark Plug Wires.

There are Four 8mm bolts that need to be removed in order to get to the Spark Plugs:

After the Four 8mm bolts have been removed, you should be able to change the Spark Plugs with These:

Please make sure that the plugs are gapped between .28 to .31 before you put them in.
Once the Spark Plugs are installed just do everything in Reverse Order to put things back the way they were when you started out. Hopefully I didn't miss anything
Thanks for Reading

Did you check the gap or just assume they were all correct?

Nice. Very easy to do, but it never hurts to have a DIY for some people. My old car (V6) was a major PITA to change the plugs because you had to remove the entire upper IM to get to the rear 3 plugs. Took a while and a lot of uncomfortable leaning over the engine bay.

BTW... what BPV is that? TurboXS? How you like it? Is it the hybrid or just straight up BPV. I've been thinking about getting one of them for a while

Added...Thanks

And Trinity, Yes I do have the TurboXS Hybrid BOV. I actually love it cause it works and sounds great. Some other ones sound like a high pitched whistle and that wasn't to my liking. But of course, everyone likes different things so it's up to you. Just do the research and usually there are videos posted up of different BOV's. Good Luck choosing one.

+1

I'm fairly knowledgeable but this is the first turbo car I've worked on myself. Nice to know exactly what parts of the TMIC to disconnect and where.
