Power Steering malfunction indicator illuminated while driving

While driving down the highway I felt the steering go hard , had a look at the dash thats when I saw the little steering indicator lighted up, tried to steer to the right side of the road but it was really hard - consulted the owners manual to see that it has to be taken to dealer.

Anyone else having this issue ?? dealer advised its a safety issue and has to get approval from MAZDA to replace the part. anyone got this simillar problem ?

power steering pump prolly died. we have electric power steering.

hello. same problem happen to me. TURNS OUT! theirs a recall on the steering pump. product is on back order where im located. definitely let mazda fix it if its under warranty.

mine cuts out when i was driving and id shut it off and turn it on a couple mins later and it worked..

check your fluid level and tell me if its way above the maxx line??

Carowen !

Thats exactly what happend , and yeah the steering fluid is way above the MAX limit, right now Im given a rental from the dealer since I have warranty, asked the dealer how long would the wait be - he replied "unknown"

would it be safe to drive even if the pump is replaced, imagine that happening while driving down the Highway at 60mph !! and its time to change lanes

Have you got yours fixed ??

i contacted my service department and theres a 600 parts BACKORDER! i cant even take my mazda out of the shop its a "Safety hazard" funny thing was i drove it to the dealership. the "kink" il put it worked it self out and i regained power steering. but i want it fixxed so im not a driving hazard.

i got stuck with a bare bones nissan rogue

no ETA on fix time.

StUpId8000 - No info on this recall anywhere !! not even at MAZDA

Carowen - I got the EDGE as a rental, how long have you been waiting for ? once I took mine to the dealer it worked fine as the tech took a spin around the block.. Im never gonna be content even if they replace the pump - it could get stuck at any moment....

Mine happened on monday as well, just got a call from my dealership and was told that they are on it and I just have to be patient because of the back order and I could hang on to the rental.

please let us know what you hear from your dealer....
