Default Is this discount off of MSRP a good deal?

A friend of mine just received a quote for the following:

Mazda 3 GX with Auto, A/C & Convenience pkg. The MSRP is exactly $18,890 CDN. The dealer is discounting the car by $550 to make it $18,340. Is this a pretty good discount off of MSRP?

Anyone know or can pretty much guess what the invoice price would be on this car? I'm trying to determine how much over invoice this quote really is...

You can get $500 off just by being a previous Mazda owner...I think they can do better than that...

I would recommend going to www.kbb.com and look at the new cars. At that website you can price a car with options, and it will tell you the "Invoice" Price. This is the price that the dealer wants you to believe they spent on the vehicle. That website will also show you the MSRP. The MSRP is an overinflated price, and I would never recommend spending that amount. Different dealers will give you different deals, but I would highly recommend that you go to Mazdas website and find out what incentives Mazda is offering, because you want to be sure that the dealership will take that rebate off the negotiated price. I know right now in the US Mazda is offering a 500 rebate if you use Mazda financing. If it helps at all I just got my M3 less than two weeks ago, and paid $400 over Invoice price, plus tax.....

Good Luck!

I don't know which part of Canada you from, but if you read last week Toronto Star Sat Wheels edition, there was a article said that Canadian dealers markup 8-12% for the invoice price (of course if you trust the article). For our 3 this new and good buy, you can hardly make a good deal from the dealers, so my opinion, 3% off will be a good one, although usually you can off about 6-8%.
Also in Canada, which quite different to US, we never know the invoice price, so we never have any thing a few hundred $$ over the invoice is a good deal thing. Same as it is illegal in Canada for dealer selling cars such as M3, SL, or Mitsh Evo thousand of dollars over the MSRP, you won't being ripped off with these high demand cars.
