Default Stock Alarm System: Any Good?

Any body has more info on the stock alarm system? Is it chip based like on the Ford Focus? Should I upgrade mine to a better one to prevent theft? Has anybody upgraded theirs already? What about lock bolts for the mags? Which one, if any, are you using?

I believe the factory alarm is a dealer installed accessory. Mine's only coming with the engine immobilizer system and no alarm system, but it does have keyless entry.

bobmtb,

the stock alarm doesn't have shock sensor or anything like that. It's only went off when the doors are forced.

I don't know what kind of chip inside the engine immobilizer theft. Why it's important?

PS: rpc180, bobmtb is located in Canada.

EDIT: Yes, the engine immobilizer (available on all trims, regardless with or w/o the alarm) is chip based.

Depends what you consider good. It certainly isn't like any aftermarket alarm, but if someone bashes your window in or something it will go off.

Car alarms seem to be such a worthless technology. They go off so often by mistake, that people have come into the habit of just ignoring them.

Didn't realize the alarm was standard in Canada, you guys actually have it kinda nice, the sunroof is included with the sport package too.

I weighing in the idea of a Lojack installation instead, apparantly its only $100USD more than a factory alarm install and would probably be more useful if necessary.

Lojack is much more useful than some stupid alarm.

I am debating if I should install an aftermarket 2-way alarm, where you can get the status of the alarm from a pager-like remote. However, if the engine immobilization is chipped based like the Focus system, then it would mean some kind of key cutting to bypass that with the alarm. Anybody installed an aftermarket alarm on their MZ3?
