It all started in 04 with the release of the brand new Mazda3.
Now we are coming up to the fifth year of production and some 3's have accumulated some mileage. Perhaps we wont ever surpass the mileage driven by the Camrys and Accords but we might match it!
So, this thread is created for those that have stacked up those miles! How many miles have you driven so far! Any major problems? Let us all know please......
2004 Mazda3 hatch. 298,200 miles, but I've only put 5000 miles on it over the past three years due to driving another car. It's been sitting all winter and needs a lot of work, but it still rolls down the road. Trying for 300,000 with my fingers crossed.
5+ months later and I'm still stuck at 298,200. Car has been sitting since then due to some kind of electrical problem. After a long winter of not driving it, I installed a new batter and the car started right up. However, the next day it wouldn't despite showing full power inside with the electrical system (windows, lighting, radio, etc). I'm guessing something with the wiring to and from the starter, or the starter itself. I just haven't been motivated to get it fixed. Meanwhile, the rotors are looking pretty rusted. I hope it'll still roll once I decide to get this thing running again.
1st thing out: thermostat, about 4 yrs ago. Since the AC still works, never fixed. CD changer stopped working about a year ago, ate some very valuable discs in the process (part of a very expensive box set).
Was the victim of a crappy mechanic for awhile and spent some $$$$ replacing shit that probably didn't need replacing. It would throw a code, they'd say "you need X" and then the bill would magically be astronomical. They found new and ingenious ways to pad the bill. No, I'm not a motor-head.
It seems to eat through tires. Have had some that didn't make it to their 'expected lifespan' and NO I don't drive aggressively.
All in all, I have loved this car. I just wish it had been a bit more resilient. That being said... I am eyeing the new ones now... hmmmm. And I like what I see. So a 2015 just might be in my near future.
2008.5 Mazdaspeed GT 3
Has HT tune with cobb intake
Got at 29k and now has 84k.
Under warranty replaced
-thermostat
-timiing chain and vvt - recall for pin coming loose on vvt - I had a leaking timing chain cover as well
-upgraded valve cover
Replaced by me
-spark plugs
-trans oil
-I use rotella 5w-40 oil every 5k
-02 sensors twice
-purge valve
-Tires twice. On second set still with lots of tread.
-front brakes and rotors
Ride runs great still. I don't take it to easy on me speed. Just did a 4 hour drive. Was fun as always! Love the ride!
2005 mtx 2.0 sedan, 5-speed. 184K and rising, 145 mile round trip commute to work daily. Semi-regular oil changes, on its 3rd set of tires, just replaced original pads and rotors (mostly highway miles). Never had a CEL, just starting to get the "clunk" from the rear suspension but it doesn't seem to have any effects the radio volume can't fix. Most reliable vehicle I've ever had, still getting 34-36 mpg running 80 mph with the a/c pumping!
2010 Mazda 3 2.5L ATX, 124K miles and rising. 50 mile round trip commute into the big city, which I do everyday though only five days for work. On third set of tires. I have followed suggested maintenance schedule in the owners manual. I've replaced front brake pads, had rotors reground and brake lines flushed. New battery at 72K. Full synthetic oil change every 5K. Click through for a more detailed account. http://www.mazda3forums.com/showthread.php?t=668081&highlight=
2005 SP23 hatch. Got it with 7k now has 327,500 and still going strong. Daily driver. Original motor and trans, never any major work. 3 batteries, countless sets of tires, 4 wheel brake job, rears at 150k, front at 250k, set of motor/trans mounts, rear shocks, (original fronts, guess I should change those), 3 sets of plugs. That's about it. Amazing car.
2006 Mazda 3 Gt HB 5-spd with 202,100 miles on her. I'm the third owner , and I put about 48,417 since 5/2012 miles on her. Still avg. 31-32 mpg. Cold air intake is the only performance mod on her, beside lighter 5-zigen wheels on her. In my time of ownership I done trans mount, both front outter tie-rods, front brakes pads, rear 02 sensor, replaced the coil-overs with stock.
146k miles, issues have been a ripped cv boot due to lowering the car, pcv replaced due to its old thought it was time, rear suspension clunks due to bad trailing arm bushings, my doors lock but only driver side unlocks. Unresolved rust on uni body and rear quarters due to harsh pa roads, they put lime it in that just eats everything. Dash light for the passenger seats comes n goes, witch I think is from sliding the seat back n forth, new front control arm due to worn bushing, door opener and cable broke off couple days ago. Rear control arm bushing shot when lowering my car snapped shock studs, snapped a stud on my trans mount, due to over torque blown pmm, new front bumber due to hitting a fox, NO MOTOR ISSUES AS OF YET compression was done 160 across the bored but all I did was remove fuel and spark plugs I believe your suppose to remove a bolt on the block not sure if that affect it either was I was in the good range, checking valves soon, I'm keeping it as a dd with some minor parts still worth saving with rust and a over torqued trans mount
'04 hatch with almost 270,000 miles, bought new in Feb 2004.
Rear wheel arches completely rusted out (life in Michigan)
Replaced intake manifold at around 60k (right after the warranty expired-$400)
Third set of front brakes, 5th? set of rear brakes
Shocks and struts at 120k
Front wheel bearings on both sides
Both front lower control arms
Both outer tie rod ends
Rear lower control arm forward bushings
Transmission mount
No idea how many sets of tires (5? 6?)
Changed spark plugs once at 75k
Replaced both driveshafts (one worn, one a repair shop screw-up)
Probably a dozen headlights (silverstars are complete crap)
Extended MAP harness for CAI
Current issues:
Need to replace t-stat
P0446 emission code
Defective HVAC fan switch that causes A/C to cut out intermittently
Tailpipe hanger rusted through so the pipe bangs on the rear subframe sometimes
Right side e-brake is sticking
All in all, it's been a great car. With the exception of the intake manifold, everything that has been done is just maintenance. I haven't had any failures of any kind and the car has never left me stranded. I even have a trailer hitch on it and have hauled up to a ton behind it. She just keeps on truckin.
2012 Mazda3 iTouring hatch with the SkyActiv 6MT. 120k miles and absolutely loving it!
Nothing but routine maintenance. Struts starting to leak and occasional hard runs at the track.
Mods I have done are a CorkSport SRI and a CorkSport CBE w/racepipe. Everything else is still stock. OE brakes and OE clutch from the factory, still hasn't been changed out. Did get a new set of tires though.
I road rally a lot with Rally North America and hasn't skipped a beat at all!
Holy crap! My '12 SGT hatch only has 53,800 miles and it's a full year and a half since you posted this. How do you put so many miles on your vehicle so quickly? How many do you have now?
2004 Automatic Hatchback bought it in Feb. '05 as an old stock deal. (had 67 miles) Routine maintenance except 6-disc changer ~200k and water pump ~285k. Still fun to drive and in amazing shape.
I dig the third generation look a lot but until this one gives up on me we're going to keep it rolling. I need to scroll through this thread to see what the record is.
I'm looking into buying a 2005 mazda3 hatch. It's got 199,000 miles on it but in amazing shape. It's a manual 5 speed. They want 5000 for it. I could use some feed back. Thank you
I haven't posted in a few years but I'm up to 285,000 on my '04 Hatch. Lots of tires, a few sets of brakes, couple sets of spark plugs and struts/shocks, lower control arms and oil changes every 10,000 or so. Still the only "major" repair was an intake manifold for $400. There was a TSB for it but I was already out of warranty by that time.
The only bad thing is that my rear wheel arches have severe rust-through due to Michigan winters.
2006 Mazda3 S Hatch, Touring, Manual, will hit 173,000 miles end of week, when I will drop it off at the dealer as a trade-in for a new 2017 Mazda3 Hatch Grand Touring + Premium Eq. Pckg. Manual I am picking up on the same day.
It has been a great ride, these are the only repairs other than the usual maintenance:
- Passenger side bearing at ~80,000 miles
- Front Struts at ~105,000
- Control Arms and Bushings at ~ 157,000
- Windshield washer fluid pump at ~ 160,000
- Rear shock mount at ~165,000 (the right side one broke due to a HUGE pothole on the highway I did not see at night...)
That was it, and I only had to replace the battery once. Not bad for 11 and half years of New England roads and weather. Unfortunately rust started to show up a years or so ago on both rear wheel archers. Knowing I was going to replace it anyway this year, I did not want to spend money on body work and it got worse quickly,
Other than that, best car I EVER owned. I hope her granddaughter will last as long as she did!
I've made it to 150k without any major repairs, mostly just standard maintenance, but when I rolled 150k it needed some work. Needed front struts and rears were recommended so I did full coilovers. Front control arms were replaced due to bad bushings, added rear adjustable camber arms to compensate for the drop. Flushed and replaced coolant with Mazda fluid.
So my 2008 Mazda 3 has 175K+ miles on it, and when I bought it, I immediately replaced the rotors and the pads, since I didn't like the way they look. It has a replacement Automatic Transaxle in it, and I have NO idea how many miles are on it, but I had to take it in and get some stuff (pan , TCM, and Output Speed Sensor) replaced, but there was nothing mechanically wrong with it.
The car drives like a dream, and the interior is like new, and everything still works. It would appear that someone drove this car a great deal, with no passengers in it. There just isn't the kind of wear and tear anywhere in the car to show that many miles. It is white in color, four door, VERY responsive, and passed the "wife test".
All in all, a car I should be happy with for quite some time. I was frustrated with it at first, but no more. Great car.
2004 3S with the 2.3. I'm now over 220,000 miles, with almost no repairs other than wear items like motor mounts, suspension, and brakes. I did have to replace a leaking radiator last year, but that's really all I can think of off of the top of my head. I had a crack in a rim once, too.
I did the spin on oil filter conversion a while ago, and only use Mazda OEM filters. As far as oil, it's 5W-20 Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or Mobil1 Extended Life High Mileage, and I change it every 5,000 miles. I use less than a quart between changes.
This low amount of oil use seems to be out of the norm for my engine, but I'll take it!
As far as the radiator failure, the one I replaced last year wasn't factory. It was an el cheapo RockAuto replacement from 2012 when I hit a deer.
I have 176,000 miles on a 2008 Mazda 3 S Sport Hatchback with manual transmission. Upcoming front wheel bearing replacement happening in early Feb, but still have original clutch. Car's been great, I keep up on the oil changes and regular maintenance. Due to the crummy roads in SE Pennsylvania outside of Philadelphia, front end alignments and shock/strut replacement happen more frequently than what most people have to get. My ONLY complaint is how crummy the back window wiper is--many replacements, never a smooth clear back window. Have BF Goodrich G-force Comp 2 A/S tires, had been running with Kumho ASX tires but couldn't get them after awhile. LOVE THIS CAR.
One-owner 2004 S hatchback, got new tires last week and just changed trans fluid last night... sitting at 322,322 miles. Still my daily driver after 18 years.
