Some will be aware that there have been discussions on other threads about the ability for Aussie spec cars to display the ambient (outside) temperature.
At the moment there are a few threads kicking around the Aussie section of this forum with discussions about this.
If you own a Maxx Sport or lower (SP23 already has it) you can order an Air Temperature Sensor and install it in your engine bay pretty simply, to obtain this function.
oo so it costs $50 for the sensor? just might have to get this then
hearing about this change to the sensor plug makes me wonder if theyll sell me a '04 style one or '05 one.. will have to cross my fingers i guess
They will certainly provide the same part for the same part number... If you have an 05 car, it may not fit.
It was kind of re-assuring that somebody else discovered that the part would't fit. Sad though, but at least I am not mad
Does anybody have a great relationship with their dealership? I will kind of admit that to me, the dealership was a company to buy the car I wanted from, and I fully expect them to try to recover money from wherever they can. I had a chat to one of the Belconnen parts dealers, and he said that they were having problems.
ok guys with 05 model!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the sensor does fit. you havent wasted 50bucks!
i have an 05 maxxsport and it ftted perfectly and works great...
at first i thought it didnt fit... but look closely. the socket has some sort of a dead plug connected to it. all you have to do is press down the tab ontop and pull that one out. then you will see that the sensor can click in
you have to take the other plug/cover/piece of plastic out before installing the sensor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the advice..... am glad I didn't give Mazda 50 bucks for nothing. Makes you wonder though why they went to the lengths of designing and fitting a plastic plug onto the sensor harness, when they could have fitted the sensor itself. I suppose they probably "saved" $8.49 per car or something!
Thanks for your help. You were right, they has a silly little blanking plug installed. Removed that and it was all sweet.
What confused me was the two orange silicon rubber inserts in the top of the plug. It looked like they were some sort of displacement arrangement to ensure that water was kept out of the connector. Anyway, all is now well, and the ambient display operates as it should. FYI, this morning driving to work, it was 8 deg C.
I suspect that the wiring loom manafacturer put the blanking plug there to keep crap out of the empty socket.
Unco may need to order the part in, most dealers are putting them in the Maxx Models you just need to ring your dealer and ask for the AMB Sensor it is Part Number G51861764 for the 2004 Models (when I got mine last year), 2005 might be the same part number...
Could someone who's enabled the ambient temp sensor show a picture of the LCD screen? Just wondering how much of the blank space to the right is used now. Thanks
if you look at ur lcd screen, u should be able to see two numbers on the right hand corner..and thats the only space that will be used i guess..haha..i know pic tell tales..
Heh I finally did it, just thought I'd update you guys and say thanks to all who gave me info, and thanks to Misery who gave the part number made it easier when I walked into the parts department. Pic Pic 2
Hi guys my car has an ambient temperature sensor but I do not get the temperature reading or the A/C on the LCD. I changed my radio to an EONON and was able to get the mileage reading but still no temperature. Can you help me out ?
I believe you will need to remove your eonon plug in the stock unit, than get the temperature settings to show on it. Than replug the eonon in and it will keep the settings.
how do I get that done? I bought the car in April and with the stock head unit it didn't show on the LCD.
