Hey,
I am just about to order 4 kuhmo tires 205/50/17 from tirerack and got quoted to have them mounted and balanced for 170 from the dealer, which seems ridiculous. How much should I pay to have them mounted and balanced? I did a search and didn't find any specifics.

HOLY HELL!!!

you guys are paying waaaaaaaaaay too much.

check your local tire shops. never take anything simple like that to the dealership. they will rape you.

walmart's tire center is pretty cheap. i think it's only $15/tire to mount and balance.

the only reason you would need an alignment is if you've lowered your car or you car isn't tracking straight.
ie, hit a curb or something to cause the alignment of the car to be off.

I am actually getting the tires for my 04 3 which is my wifes car now. She is taking it to ohio, so I want her to have some good tires on there and not a crappy set of rsa's with 21k on them and no tread. Sounds like I don't need an alignment, and I made an appointment, It will cost me 25 a tire which is better than the 45 the dealer wants. Thanks for the help guys.

My dealer $80 bucks. But beware of discount shops - they will f*ck up your rims. No problems at mazda, but Goodyear shop left a couple nice gauges on the rim edge.

It's not a discount shop, it's a chain. There are two in town, gonna hit up the closest one - http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/home.do
[/quote]Yeah I ve been to a discounttire and they left a few minor scuffs as well - and put regular valve caps back on instead of the chrome ones it came in with. Go where you want - just saying the sometimes its worth a little extra money at the dealership to get it done right.

What if they are aftermarket rims?

Hey if your cool with the guys that work there and ask them to look out for your rims you should be alright. I had my tires slashed last year and discounttire mounted and balanced my oem tires back on my car for free. They felt bad I guess..

Hmm...will the dealership mount and balance aftermarket rims, though?

Alright, cool. I'll have to give them a call tomorrow, and see what they charge.

If you have Tire Pressure Monitoring System valves, make sure you ask if there is an extra charge to have them moved to the new wheels. My dealer quoted me $60 for mounting and balancing tires on my new Enkei wheels, but hit me with another $40 plus tax to move the valves over. I first learned about the extra charge after the work was completed.
