Has anyone done a stereo upgrade to a 2010 3 yet, bose or no bose? If so, how did you remove the doors and get the head unit out. Did you replace your headunit or simply upgrade the speakers / add a sub / amp the speakers in your system? Was the LCD screen still functional for the climate control, etc?
Looking for any information on this as there seems to be little to none yet.
Bibz, I don't know these vehicles well. I am just scratching the surface. So therefore I don't know what would happen to that red display on the dash with an aftermarket HU. As far as bluetooth goes I think you would be ok with a Pioneer unit perhaps with built in BT and nav.
I don't care for BT so maybe others can help you with HU models from other manufacturers that have it built in or go with an external add on type BT module. I personally would choose Kenwood, Eclipse or Alpine for HU's. Just add the steering wheel control module and you're set.
Looks like everything goes through the radio, so you'll lose the BT, probably the NAV as well since it is able to shut the audio off and send audio. Pretty much everything on the steering wheel's audio will go too. Last time on my 04 it was a brown whire for the volume control to the deck on my eclipse...I have no idea right now. Best bet is to wait it out until someone has it squared away....
If you have an aftermarket HU with BT and Nav and you get the steering wheel control module why worry about losing the factory stuff? You're replacing it all. Now if these cars come with some type of controls for BT on the steering wheel than that's a whole other deal.
i just thought i would chime in and give a few more images to help with the select group of people who don't have the boss audio system, though even with these haven't been able to exactly pin down what wire is the "remote" or (Amp Control) for these systems as the standard hu does not have an amp and therefore the wire just plainly isn't there. someone sugjested using the violet wire, however i have found that that wire and the red wire are both for the clock display.
anyway, here are the images i promised.
EDIT: mmm i guess i have to wait on the other two for aproval.
Yea, I just installed an amp with subs and I pretty much sliced open all the cords and only found that the Brown bottom right wire is the only one that can give power to turn on the amp but it stays on all the time. there were no other wire that I tried so I think I'm gonna have to get a switch in unless someone else finds that remote wire and lets people know. I have a non-Bose system.

If you can get to it, try tapping the 12v (lighter) outlet. It should only be ACC ON.
I was thinking about putting in a pioneer HU but I dont want to lose the speaker built into the car used for voice controls and phone calls. Does anyone know if the stock speaker can be used on an aftermarket HU or do I have to use the crappy one that comes with the pioneer unit?

You will lose the entire stock bluetooth setup (streaming BT audio and BT handsfree phone).
i cant find a wiring harness for the 2010 non bose system. could i use the wire harness from my 08 mz3 that i still have wired to my valor single din in dash. sure would make the install easy. plus with an aftermarket head unit does i am sure you lose the function of the oem display screen but does it stay lit up with lines and dashes or does it just not get any power without the stock head unit. that would be ugly
helo
