Get one from the junkyard. I have looked around and parts stores only sell the basket as a single unit not just the pump. Depending on the year of car and emissions protocol could range from $300-$450
also getting to the fuel tank isn't hard jsut make sure when you go to unlock the pump from the tank push down otherwise the child lock will kick in and you will just free spin the pump in place.
To make the job easier, have the tank as empty as possible, otherwise your gonna make a mess.
There are two different styles of fuel pump depending on if you have a plastic tank or a metal one. The metal one has a little slide ring that only requires a screw driver and a hammer to remove.
Make sure you pull the rear seat cushion up and disconnect the fuel pump connector.
I just checked. I see why. I don't understand though, they should have just made the opening bigger would be easier to access the pump assembly. Hope they have a good reason for that.
My fuel pump has a broken fuel pipe (area with red pointing arrows in attached image). I do not want to buy the entire fuel pump assembly. Is it possible to only replace the top part of the assembly from a used pump obtained from a junk yard? Is the fuel pump assembly (in the diagram) separable into different components?
I have not done it however it might be possible. You could go to a salvage yard and take one apart there for practice. If you were able to get it apart without breaking anything and reassembly looked possible then you might be able to swap the parts to the other pump that's in the car.
I have a spare pump at my house. Tomorrow I'll look at it to see if I think it can be done. I'll let you know.
I tried to take the pump apart tonight. I could not get the top section off. Every time I tried to find a way to separate the top from the rest of the pump parts kept breaking. I looked closely but could not find any tabs or release points for what held the two parts together. So, it does not look like it is possible. Sorry.
