ok so i heard that when installing an intake u may actually lose some power if u dont get a tune after the install.  just wondering if there are any negative effects if u dont get a tune?

I don't see how you can lose power. Although there is a debate out there on whether or not to tune with just an intake.

Just do a home depot tune, unplug the battery and there's your tune. I think the ECU is adaptive enough. But yes, a proper tune will yield more power.

Just make sure it has an airflow straightener.

The air straightener smooths out the flow of air just before the airflow sensor. Without one, the air coming in is to turbulent, and the car throws a check engine light because of it.

Yeah I got lucky and had it in the proper orientation when I put it in. I have heard if it's the wrong orientation, right-side-up or whatever, it'll throw a CEL too.

Hi, im new here and was wondering what would be the best cold air intake for the 2010 mazdaspeed3. I've never done anything to any car before but gotta start somewhere right? I was wondering if intakes like the aem cold air intake or injen cold air intake would be alright for my car. I've looked around and really haven't found anything on the the 2010 models but there is a lot of stuff on the first generations. Thanks

I know CP-E has a CAI for 2nd gen. They make good stuff.

Mazdaspeed has a CAI for the 1st gen, don't know about the 2nd gen. If you don't want to deal with warranty stuff, I'd go with the Mazdaspeed CAI. It's made by AEM, so MS CAI and AEM CAI are pretty much the same thing. Also, both are CARB legal. I live in CA (SF too!) so that was a plus.

When I first got my car in Jan 2007, I was one of the guys that bought (group buy) the mazdaspeed 3 CAI by mazdaspeed. At the time, there was only mazdaspeed CAI available in the market and now there's few of them out there. My question is, when I do a search, majority of the guys (even those who owned mazdaspeed CAI before) are now running aftermarket CAI. Is it because it has better performance over mazdaspeed or is it because there's something wrong with mazdaspeed's CAI? Wear and Tear perhaps?

Most throw CEL's because of lack of air straightener.

I'm running the MSCAI. I installed it 21 year and 19,000 miles ago. I've had no problems of any kind. I did buy an air straightener from AEM prior to installing it. I've heard that the threaded rubber mounts can break so I ordered some extras from Summit(AEM part #1228599). That said, I just checked my mount yesterday and it looks fine.

Anyone replace the filter on their Mazdapseed CAI yet?  I think I'm beyond cleaning it at this point.  WHat did you replace it with and from where?  If you got the Mazda one, can you point me to the part number please?

Ok, so MS CAI comes with air straightener already then.

I had to ask because div2 had mentioned:

Is the AEM suppose to be some sort of an upgrade vs MS once?

The early MS CAI did not come with an air straightener.

does anyone know if the OEM air straightener will fit in the injen cai?? Or is it better to just get the OEM cai w/ the straightener?

So the MS CAI, AEM CAI, & Injen CAI are the only ones CARB legal right? I don't know if I missed it on this thread...

How much power do you guys think a CAI adds?  Just a ballpark figure will do.

Injen Cold Air Intake Water Sheild?
« Reply #504 on: August 18, 2010, 11:34:49 AM »
I see that they started selling this product with the Injen CAI for 24 bucks, "HYDRO-SHIELD PRE-FILTERS" It looks like this intake gets pretty low in the bay. Do you thinks it makes a differance?  I'm pretty much set on going with this intake. Just wondering if this was a snake oil add on. The info about the shield is here. http://www.injenairintakes.com under the options when you select a CAI.

Thanks fellas

I put one on my MS CAI; I thought a little extra protection couldn't hurt- even though it already comes with a splash shield.
