MazdaSPEED3 XCelTM Cold Air Intake
Custom Performance Engineering™ (cp-e™) is proud to announce the release of its XCel™cold air intake for the MazdaSPEED3.

Our XCel™ intake is unlike any other intake for the MazdaSPEED3. This isn’t just another clever marketing scheme; we actually apply several crucial design details to our intake that our competitors overlook. To illustrate our point, let’s consider how our competitors make their cold air kits.

Our competitors bend their standard size aluminum pipe (think 2.5”, 2.75”, 3” etc.) as one piece and then put a filter on the end of it. This is cheap and easy to manufacture, but the resulting vehicle drivability can be hit or miss because little attention is paid to the mass air sensor, which is arguably the most important sensor on your engine! Because our competitors use standard size pipe, the diameter of the mass air housing is not ideal, and this usually leads to knocking and/or hesitation under heavy throttle inputs.

The cp-e™ XCel™ intake on the other hand has several features that ensure an accurate mass air meter reading. We not only machine out mass air housings from aluminum blanks to tolerances of +/- 0.002” (about the width of a human hair), but we also include a stock-style airflow straightener, which our competitors delete, yet greatly improves sensor precision. The resulting fuel trims are nearly stock, and the vehicle drivability is unchanged from stock…save for the extra horsepower of course!

MazdaSpeed3 SF Intake

Netting a + 11 lb. ft. and + 6 HP, the COBB Tuning SF Intake utilizes our custom CFD design to maintain optimal flow and generate ideal performance. The OEM MazdaSpeed airbox is the most restrictive stock intake we have seen to date. Simply replacing it with the COBB Intake will allow your MazdaSpeed3 safe and consistent power gains!

The custom conical cloth filter feeds filtered air directly to the engine, while maintaining optimal intake velocity and minimizing turbulence found with many aftermarket intake systems.

HKS Racing Suction Reloaded Kits have been developed as the leading intake system for high performance applications. Each kit features aluminum suction pipes that have been tested for optimal air flow. Included in each kit is HKS' Reloaded filter with its patented Super-Funnel and new technical advances:
- Filter cage allows for 30% more intake surface area
- Aluminum back plate for added strength
- Sealing ring reduces contaminants from entering engine
- Dual Density wet filter element

MAZDASPEED Cold Air Intake Filter Assembly For MAZDASPEED 3

The MAZDASPEED Cold Air Intake features a mandrel-bent 6061 aluminum inlet pipe for durability and light weight. Each MAZDASPEED Cold Air Intake system's length and diameter has been tuned and tested to work with an engine's harmonics (resonance frequencies) to help carry more air to the inlet valves across the RPM range.
Bring cold air from outside the engine compartment into the engine through mandrel bent 2.75" diameter, polished and powder coated aluminum tubing. The intake system is designed for improved engine breathing, while re-using the stock MAF sensor. The kit utilizes the latest in dry filter technology.

The MAZDASPEED Cold Air Intake features a revolutionary DRYFLOW filter. Their unique non-woven polyester element is independently tested to filter out 98.6% of airborne fine dust in initial efficiency, with an industry leading cumulative efficiency of 99.4% (cumulative efficiency is the average for the test cycle). The DRYFLOW also filters down to ONE MICRON of particulate! Competitors claim that as the filter gets dirty, it filters more efficiently. While this is true, what they dont tell you is that their clean filter lets dirt through until it traps enough to become efficient!

MAZDASPEED Cold Air Intake systems come with a complete hardware kit and a comprehensive installation instruction guide.

Every MAZDASPEED Cold Air Intake is either C.A.R.B. exempt or pending C.A.R.B. exemption (50-state legal). All MAZDASPEED Cold Air Intakes are manufactured and assembled in the U.S.A.

Dynojet Research Dynos were run on 2 different days. Dyno with MAZDASPEED CAI was run on 3-5-07 and Dyno with stock airbox was run on 3-6-07. Yes, I had to take off the MS CAI and re-install the stock hardware! Actually, I'm still stuck with the stock HW cause I don't have time to change it.

COLD AIR INTAKE SYSTEMS
A Cold Air Intake is traditionally longer and in most cases extended behind the bumper cover so that it can ingest direct air that is both cooler and denser. In addition to more direct air, the longer plenum achieves higher torque gains as well as impressive horsepower figures. Depending on the complexity of the plenum route, the Fujita Cold Air Intake may come as a 1 piece or 2 piece intake system. Different diameters, filters, and bends are all key factors of the R&D process of each Cold Air Intake. The in-house Dynojet is the final judge of which intake configuration will make it to production. Air/Fuel ratios are also an important factor in testing the Cold Air Intake, ensuring that safe and near factory levels are maintained in order to not trip any electronic sensors on the vehicle.

Has anyone else dyno'd the injen intake?  Those gains seem.... bloated.

good thread

the only thing that is misleading is the gain numbers

If im reading the dynos and everything correctly, the cobb sri is rated with the least amount of gains, yet supposedly it makes more hp and less tq. Im guessing this is just becuase of the different dynos, but can someone clear up the gains for me somehow? I also have heard that when an ms3 with a cobb sri (no other mods) was compared to an ms3 with a MS intake (no other mods) they were dead even until higher mph then the car with cobb pulled away everytime. Everything i read says that the cobb sri makes just as good of gains as all the other cai's, but these numbers say otherwise. Whats up?

The difference in the numbers comes down to dynos.  The cobb uses a mustang dyno where all the others were using a dynojet.  I don't exactly know *how* much lower they read, but it is pretty significant.  I'd bet that the cobb sri puts out around the same hp as the others given the same dyno

Mustang dynos typically put down lower #`s. I`ve seen that across the board with front and rear drive cars. FI and NA. I think their software is set up to mimick "real world" road variables. I don`t know exactly what that means. But I assume the software actually acts as though you lose a slight amount of power on the street rather that sitting on a dyno in a controlled environment. I think.

So just replace the stock tube with a nice silicone piece is what I'm thinking.
