I went ahead and checked my mount.  I put the front of the car on jackstands, and supported the transmission with the floorjack.  Visually, it did not look loose.  The bolt did have two washers under it.  Grabbed my torque wrench, and started tightening from the low end of the wrench (25ft/lbs), and went up every 15ft/lbs.  It was torqued above 55ft/lbs, but just slightly below 70ft/lbs.  I tightened it to 70ft/lbs, and left it alone.

So all looks good so far.

Checked drivers side engine mount bolt and found it to be at 25 ft-lbs.
Removed the bolt from the engine mount, applied medium strength (blue) loctite, installed bolt and tighted to 80 ft-lbs.

That is exactly the same thing I found and action I took. Near identical mileage as well.

So, I checked mine the other day since the dealer I took it to for an oil change knew zip about it. At 75 ft/lbs I did get a tiny bit of movement. Cranked it up to 80 ft/lbs and called it good for now. I have about 6500 miles on mine and drive it plenty hard but no speedshifting or high RPM clutch drops.

went to my dealer today (community mazda, oak forest ill) to have them check the motor mount bolt. good news on two fronts 1: the bolt was tight and showed no signs of abnormal wear 2: my service guy informed me that mazda sent him the e-mail TODAY on this subject, so it appears to be in the system. if the bolt was loose he was instructed not to touch it, give me a loaner, and wait for a tech from mazda central. while he was checking the bolt he said he got 2 calls from mazda central, and one from mazda regional to check the status. hope this helps

Ditto.  Nice job on reporting this...sounds entirely reasonable to me that they are keeping a very close eye on this situation (starting to think more seriously about the fact that they might be going with a different manufacturer for the mount as well).

What did you do to Fix it?

I wouldn't say it was a problem per say.  I put the car on ramps and jacked up the engine by the transmission housing.  The bolt was tight all the way up to 70ft/lbs.  At 70 it moved a tiny bit before the torque wrench clicked.  I went up to 75ft/lbs and got a tiny bit more.  Total less then 1/4 turn.  I was satisfied.

I also noticed that there were two washers under the bolt....  Does everyone have two washers?

Just a note on the torques...torque specs at assembly plants are usually specified at a nominal torque value plus or minus 15%.  For this joint, that means that the torque could be anywhere in the range between 64 and 86 lb-ft of torque.  Additionally, there can be relaxation in the joint after it is assembled, so torque measured on the joint might be lowere than the original value the joint is torqued to.

For this particular joint, I would be alarmed if you see anything lower than 55 lb-ft...anything higher is probably within the normal range.

I am saving up and trade in my 3 for a Speed3... and I have been reading the Mazdaspeed3 section for quite awhile now... is Mazda going to get this a 'recall'? Or if I get a Speed3, I'd have to do that to make sure it's locked on my own?

Oh! And one thing, so how come with all the test drivings from Car and Driver, all the car magazines... they never broke on them?

So what's the total that we know of so far? There must be others that this forum is not aware of.

How long can Mazda continue to try to hide this issue without issueing a recall or TSB? :x

My bro just got his Speed3, black. I told him about this thread... we will keep an eye out on that mount... get it tighten up when we have the time. Don't have to worry about it yet since he's just breaking in the engine.

Break in has little to do with it as some came loose from the factory.  He should check it asap.
Mods so far: Cobb SRI, TWM shifter base bushings

So when I got my oil changed today I realized my dealerships service departement is pretty stupid.

Now they did change the oil and all of the little inspections services correctly.  I decided to see what else they knew about the issues with the mazdaspeed3. This is the answer I got for the motor mount.

Me: So have you heard any issues with the drivers side motor mount?
Answer:  There have been some mounts that have broken but you only have 2000 miles so I wouldn't worry about.
me: Um..I would feel comfortable if someone checked it for me.
Answer: OH well the mount is right above you can see it....here I'll show you.

So he opens the hood and shows me two bolts to the left of the intercooler and says see your mounts are prefectly fine...Sometimes oil gets in them and they get loosened up...You'll here a clunk if something breaks.

ME: so your telling me there is no motor mount under the battery box?

Answer:  Nope your car is fine ..see your mounts are tight.

Thats when I knew I was talking to freaking moron.  Even though they did a good job with the oil change and pointed out my damaged tire I probably won't be going back there.  Just because I know they will not be willing to do what I ask.  I'll just go to another dealership..someone closer to my house.  I like to test people without having to argue with them acting dumb goes a long way.
