Key, remote, flip key part #'s compiled!
« on: August 30, 2006, 03:00:56 PM »
**Updated 01/13/2010**

FYI: There are new prices on many of the OEM remotes.  As always check prices before buying.
Just thought I'd put all of these together in one place and make it so people didn't have to wade through multiple threads/pages just to find the parts that work.  If you're new to the site please check out my thread Why you should buy a third key immediately!!!!.

Listed below are the keys/remotes that can be programmed to the Mz3.  Included are the P/N's for standard keys and remote fobs, as well as the flip-style key/remote combos.  All prices and part number are from bagman1 (aka Jason, our sponsor from Onlinemazdaparts).  For key purchases, if you provide your VIN to Jason he'll cut your key to your car before shipping.  Click HERE  for premade kits on www.onlinemazdaparts.com that combine the appropriate keys/remotes for your convenience.  All prices include shipping.  Also all part numbers listed are for US and Canadian models only (as far as we know).  If you're not in North America check with the retailer before ordering.  You can purchase these keys/remotes from any Mazda dealer, though our forum sponsors will probably give you a better price.  I linked to Jason's site as I've had many excellent transactions with him in the past.

Note 1: In order to program an extra key by yourself you need at least two programmed keys.  There's no minimum of remotes required for programming.  You can program up to 8 keys for your car, and up to 3 remotes.

Note 2: There are NO flip remotes that can be programmed with 2007-2009 US Mz3/MS3 computer.  This is due to a change in the KEU system for 2007-2009 models.

Note 3: The flip key/remote listed below works on all '08.5 Canadian models, however the remotes must be programmed by computer.

Note 4: 2010 models equipped with the Advanced Keyless Entry (AKE) system do not use the standard transponder key.  Additional remote fobs canONLY be programmed by the dealer. (up to four or five)

Note 5: All prices are subject to change over time.  Please confirm prices with retailers before purchasing.

Awesome, hopefully this will help clear up some of the does X work with Y questions.  Great work.  For completeness though, can we add some more of the stock Mazda3 part numbers to the list?  Stock Mazda3 remote for pre-07, 07 key/remotes, etc.

This is going to be repetitive but I just want to confirm things b/c I am not the best with this kind of stuff........

so part # GP7A675RY will work with my 05 Mazda 3 GT and is this all I will need or is there more to it?

If I buy this then do I just have to program it and then it will work fine?

Thanks a lot, Jono

that's okay, repitition is what we do best.  Repitition is what we do best.  :P

yes, GP7A675RY (aka Mz6 flip key fob) will work with your '05 US Mz3.  you also need the Mz5 key portion.  Both of these are included in the catalog list on the www.onlinemazdaparts.com website under Mz3 (thanks jason).

I'll redo some of the list to make more sense for you.

No.  The key can be cut at any hardware store as it's just a standard key.  You have to buy from Mazda to get the transponder chip (i.e. a store bought and cut key will open your doors, but will not start the car.)

If you order from Jason, and provide your VIN when ordering then he'll cut the key to match your car, and save you that step/money.

Jeebus that new remote is expensive.  Are they actually trying to make the flip keys more affordable?  What else does the new remote system do?  laundry, taxes, etc.?

Why is the Mazda3 2007 key fob so much more? Anything different? :?

As well, why what is the difference between these two fobs? I couldn't find pictures.

The remote deely stuff in the 2007 is a different system that what was in the cars for '04-'06, and requires a different remote to use it.  The old remote has been tested with a 2007, and won't work.

As for the difference between those fobs ...... functionally I don't think there is one.  As far as I know they both have the lock/unlock/panic/trunk pop buttons (note the trunk button won't open the trunk on the 3).  One of those is the stock remote from the MX-5, and the other is from the Mz6.  They both work for the 3, just one costs a hell of a lot more.  Why....... ask Mazda.  I listed the MX-5 remote, despite the price difference, becasue it's been tested on and works with the 3.  I'm not actually expecting someone to pay over $100 more for the other one when they can save money.... just putting all the info. in one place. ;)

That about right Jason? :D

As for an updated status on the circle jerk that is currently going on between Mazda and me on the 07 flip-key.

Started off as a discrepency between the EPC and real life. Now the primary issue is getting answers from Japan on this. The EPC shows one thing the the vehicle is doing another. I have so far involved Mazda parts tech, Mazda Japan and Mazda service tech in trying to solve this issue or find out what exactly needs to be done to get this to work. I should have a final solution this week.

Thanks for your patience,
JMBaggie

I don't know about the '07s, but I'd say the MZ6 flip-remote has been pretty well tested by now.  I've had one (which I purchased from onlinemazdaparts.com) for months now and it's worked flawlessly with my '06 sedan.

I have attempted to program every flip key transmitter that Mazda makes. None have worked even the one that says it is for a 07 Mazda3.

Are you saying the Mz6 flip remote fob has NOT been tested?

Sorry, that was a misleading comment.  The Mz6 flip remote has been tested on, and works, with the '04-'06 Mz3.  I should have said I also listed the MX-5 remote despite it's increased price because it also[/u] works with the Mz3.

Better? :D

Better.  To add further confusion, however, I was under the impression the Mazda5 remote did not work on the Mz3.

It's heresay, but after searching I found only reports that the flip key worked, and reports of the flip remote not working.  Did I miss something?

(I'm sorry, I'm really not trying to be a pain in the ass.  I just want to get the story straight.)

It is the remote for the MX-5 not the Mazda5.

I wondor how much I have added to the confusion with my swiss cheese memory. :D

MX-5 = Miata

Still a little in the dark here about the flip, key, and chip to make it work. Guess I'll figure it out.

The flip key (G2YA762GXA) works on 95% of the Mazda line. The flip key is the portion of this set up with the chip in it.

The Flip key transmitters are where it gets fun. Each vehicle has it's own part# but can work on other vehicles sometimes.

Yes MX-5 = Miata

Sorry about that.  My fingers went off and typed Mz5 when I specifically told them to type MX-5.  They've been reprimanded, and the mistake's been corrected. :D

hee hee.....  you owe me lots of ibuprofen.   ;)

OK, just to confirm I have this straight now, are these the correct part #'s I need to get the most economical flip key & fob combo that has been tested and proven to work on a 2006 Titanium Grey Mazda 3s (2.3L) Sedan with a Stubby Antenna installed:

-Mz5 flip key blank: Part number G2YA762GXA MSRP-$47.45, Website-$37.96
-Mz6 flip remote fob ('06): Part number GP7A675RY MSPR-$46.35, Website-$37.08 works with '04-'06 models

^ lol having trouble getting that up!?

That's what you need.  Those two parts assembled and cut are what make up the '04-'06 Flip Key Upgrade onlinemazdaparts.com sells as a kit:
http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=MorePartInfo&PartID=340926&siteid=214264&catalogid=4010

It's worked great on my '06 Mazda3s Sedan, but I can't guarentee that the Titanium Grey paint or Stubby Antenna isn't going to screw the whole thing up  :D
