the timing mod is the one I move the sensor like 4mm down and retighten the bolts?  I'm not convinced that did anything.  I mean I felt a difference, but I'm not one to rule out placebo effect so quickly :)

reset the ECU, empty out your tank of 87, then put 89.  after a couple of days the mod will reveal itself ;)

so are we saying that the '06's might have an issue with the F2 because it was tested on 04 and 05s?

I don't think so.  Look at your MAFs and model number.  Maybe it's the same number as the 04-05.  My 04 MAFs read "ZL01" then "197400-2010". My new one reads "L321" "TN197400-2160" (i think that's what the 2 characters are on the second line, i had to take a picture) cause i couldn't read it.

I just found out that Mazda 6s, our "older brother", also uses the "L321" "TN197400-2160" part #.  So we'll need a MAF that can handle 3.0".  So don't bother check under the 6s... unless it's a MS6.

Bean keep us updated with the MAF findings! It would be cool if that is an additional mod to do to get more power out of the intake because then we might be able to remove the insert right? As a present my girl wants to either get me a used throttle body to sent to maxbore or something else for my car. I want to get the air flowing as smooth into the car as possible. Gonna keep the stock headers for now, but my exhaust has opened some potential for intake mods though :)

One thing i forgot to do was ask the RX8 owner what part # his MAFs was.  I just pm'd him right now.  I also emailed CP-E to inquire about their MAF customizer.  Their description says YOU can make it work for a different car.  So there's a possibility that it will work with a 3, as they have a kit for the 6i- so they're about half way there.

Hopefully i get the new parts next week so i can try it out right away.

Is that MAF customizer basically something that plugs in between the MAF sensor and the ECU to modify the signal?

I'm at the quarter tank mark.  This tank of gas seems to be lasting forever...  ^^

I have a 2006.  Could you update the first post?  Thank :)

We're going to need to look either for another MAF or something alltogether different to get the 3" to work without the insert. I got about 2 miles before my '06 threw a CEL without the insert. The car did not stall but did start running strange. I reset the ECU and put the insert back in. It's gonna take a couple days for the fuel trims to get back to normal but the dyno pulls should be after about a week of solid driving. The computer in these learns SLOWLY...... If I had been able to get past the CEL, I think this thing would've been running good by now. I need to try 2.75" intake and have it learn that first before trying 3" again.

Maybe just make an insert that reduces the inner diameter to 2.75" instead of a different intake. Would do the same thing no?

the insert already reduces the diameter to either 2.5 or 2.75- I'm not completely sure.  The length of the insert is about 5-6" so the MAFS can meter it correctly.

this is my condensed GB list, so it's not complete yet so pls pm me your info.

Jerad, you have a few customers including myself awaiting answers on their f5 transactions. It would be greatly appreciated if you address them as soon as you can as we have been waiting for quite some time without any word back from you.

Thanks in advance.

Yay!  This is exciting.

Is it stupid of me to put on an aftermarket intake and not even consider touching the exhaust?  It just seems like for the exhaust, it's 500-700 plus labor, if I don't do it myself, and plus a hacksaw, the scariest part since reversability becomes an issue.  I mean, I'd hate to think I'm severely limiting the gains of a CAI because of a constricted outflow.  But how far should I be willing to go?

if you strategically cut your exhaust you could have the stock one flanged for ease of reversability.  I however cut it in a stupid spot.

install is easy DIY. will take you about 1.5 hrs if you take your time.

the mod bug will bite you sooner or later and you will get an exhaust lol

Jerad, is your MAFS "L321 TN197400-2160" too?

Ricardo informed me that he got the intakes in and prepping them for shipment.  The GB link will be ready to send out soon.

I don't have the number handy but the '06 does look to be longer than the '04-'05. I didn't have a chance to swap them and see if one works with the other etc..

I dropped off the powder coated intakes to Ricardo and he's working on the remainder of the kit to my suggestions. They should be ready to ship very soon. I'll get the MAF number tonight when I get some time. I'm a little loopy right now with a back re-injury and soma/vicodin cocktails. I haven't been 100% so i'm trying to catch up on things.

Bean, if you want a "MAF customizer", just get a Greddy Emanage or an Apexi SAFC, they are the same thing. They are just programmable MAF interrupts basically, and they modify the output according to the tables you give it, thats how they work as a "piggyback" ecu, and would work fine for just an intake while requiring the bottleneck for the MAF housing to get it to tune alright. They are expensive (~$300), but not as bad as a standalone. Perhaps you could get one and get a baseline map for us :)

uh, yeah they will, they will work on any MAF setup, won't work AS WELL as a standalone would, but spending $1100 for an ECU to adapt to just an intake seems a bit silly. If you say they won't work, please say why so we can help you understand them a bit better.

I've read/been in a lot of those threads, it will work, AzMz3 thinks they are bad, but that doesn't mean they won't work. What about them won't work? They will modify the MAF signal that the ECU sees based on the data you give it. If done poorly, this can confuse the ECU and cause a CEL, but thats hardly "not working" (we're trying to alter the MAF signal here). You can either trust me on this one, or give me a more specific reason why it won't work so I can explain it to you, maybe I'm missing a thread here or something, but I've never seen anyone who has tried one on a Mazda3. I HAVE seen a lot of people shit talk them though. Perhaps in your "do a search post", you might at least suggest what to search for so that a noob would have a chance, but you know I'm not a noob. . .

find me an example of where it has worked on our cars. as much as I'd like it to work, there has yet to be any proof that it does work without glitch i truly would love to be able to adjust our air/fuel
