« on: April 04, 2005, 04:48:23 PM »
I just wanted to start an official h.i.d. picture thread, (i ordered mines today :D )
This thread is to show pics of different kits, from 4100k to 8000k, from brand x to brand y, im sure this thread will blow up soon ,as so many members, have them already, or want to order them, this can be used to show, the light output, color output from kit to kit, and so forth and so on...
dont just post a pic and say"look at my h.i.d's" , tell us about them, rate them etc, did u have a problem with them? what was it, this is to help out others ..
i"ll have pics in here soon as mines arrive and i install them..
thanks

Rating:  :D  :D  :D  :D  :D [5 Star/Smiley Faces]

I have the 6000k Xtec Xenon HID Kit a 5 star, simply because for the price, the quality - the warranty - and the brightness is incredible. I felt like I was driving with a candle in front of the car before I got these. It does have a intense blue output, but from the driver's view its a very white light, especially when the light warms up and get's its final color. I now have a broader view of the road and don't have to squint to make sure there isn't any deer on the side of the road, the HID's help me. No real problems with them, and they are EXTREMELY easy to install. I have never done anything on a car IN MY LIFE, and I was able to do this.

Highly Recommend for a buyer that doesn't want to pay $500 for the Polarion and wants the high quality and high light output of HIDs.

I'll post more pictures looking at the lights from the outside, so you can see the blue.

Unforunately I don't have a picture, but i bought the 8000k TechOne Kit.  Its a little more blue, and a little less bright than the kit above (as expected).  Much brighter than blue rice bulbs, but not much brighter than osram halogen bulbs.  I payed $280USD shipped, and they were working great, and easily installable, but now both my ballasts have burnt out!  Luckily they're being replaced under warranty.  I had one replaced already, and then the other one went, and now i'm still waiting for it to come back.  They were great when they were working, but i would say spend the extra $50 or so and buy the xtec kit.  TechOne only has a 1year warranty, and i have a feeling that after 1 year i'm going to be buying the xtec kit.

as soon as i get my new HID ballast installed, i will edit this thread and add my picture.

This is about as good as the factory HID's.  Not bad

Just thought I'd post a few pics of my stock HID w/ the level adjustment 'tweak'    I guess you could use it for benchmark comparisons from the driver's side perspective.  With the tweak I have the "0" setting set as a slightly higher elevated beam pattern, and the "1" setting is at the factory/stock configuration.  Pictures were taken with foglights on (lamin-x yellow overlays).  Note...I use the "1" setting for all of my city driving and only use the "0" setting when I'm on quiet, open stretches of road.  So take note on the difference in the beam pattern and beam cut-off position between the two levels.  The higher pitched "0" setting eliminates the well defined cut-off and will virtually blind on-coming drivers. So it is not recommended to use that setting in the city, especially on two-lane, opposing flow roadways.  So in laymen's terms..."1" stock, "0" high

Residential street shot (road dips slightly)....On the left is level "1", and on the right level "0"

click on images for larger view

Illuminated stretch of street (industrial/research park)....On the left is level "1", and on the right level "0"

click on images for larger view

Against Garage door (~ 5ft away)....On the left is level "1", and on the right level "0"

click on images for larger view

And a pair of exterior long distance shots I took this evening....

click on images for larger view

So in conclusion ... Although our HID's are only ~4100k and a bit more costly than the aftermarket units, I think the stock HIDs is a reasonable buy and a good upgrade.  Assuming that the TPMS system is ~$250, making the cost of the stock HID the remainder of the $700 packaged cost.  $450 for a 4100k kit and in-cabin (4) level adjustment capabilities , made useful with a little 'tweaking'...justified upgrade.

sok, what leveling adjustment tweak do you speak of?  is there something that can be done to make the adjustment of stock xenons better?

I posted a how-to guide on adjusting/aiming the low-beam.  It is now stickied at the top of this forum.  I'll probably edit it a bit to make it a little more detailed, (i.e. stock beam height measurement, how many turns of the screwdriver to match the height between each 'level' increment, etc.) if there is enough demand.  Anyhow, here's the link...

How-to Guide : Adjusting / Aiming headlights (Low Beam)

Basically the tweak I'm talking about is just playing around w/ the vertical deflection of the beam using the headlight level adjustment.   I'm still running the stock beam pattern most of the time.  It's only when I'm on quiet stretches of road when I set the beam pattern higher.

The 5300k above is not Xtec brand.  As I recall, Rancid's car has McCulloch brand HID's, and when I inquired with McCulluch in their HID thread, they claimed that their 5300k was more colored like a ~4000k kit.

I'd be interested to see the color of a 5000k kit Xtec!!

ji99lyjohn:  Thanks for the link!!

MajesticBlueNTO:  Nice pics, do you have any pics of your car from further away?  Like a few feet away from the car, that shows the light on the ground as well?

Thanks!

those with the xtec kit , when matching polarity, are the wires in the kit the same color as the wires in the oem harness so that all u have to do is color match the wires for correct polarity...

if not ,care to say what color is positive and negative on the oem wire harness, im pretty sure the wires in the kit are red(pos) and black(neg)

btw, my xtec 6000 kit is scheduled for delivery tomorrow... :irock:
**and you thought that wouldn't get removed?
