From the other side. Even if you dont care about the differences, its fun to read. They bash the ms3 saying that the seats suck and that old men trying to feel young again buy the ms3.
Well buying mine made me feel 29 again... oh wait.... I'm only 25. Yes sir, nothing like a 5 door car that my insurance company told me was a station wagon to make me feel young.

I bought my speed3 because of the features. The 2.3L (which is the displacement eclipse guys upgrade to for more torque) direct injected motor does have some teething pains... but nothing too serious. At least, I've never had anything serious happen to mine. The 6 speed transmission is sweet once you put a set of $40 shifter bushings in (or a $6 set of steel washers), and I've yet to drive a car that I didn't feel needed solid shifter bushings. The massive brakes and just-right 18" wheels were a selling point. As was the dynamic stability control, active braking, limited slip differential, and traction control (I drove 2700lb 300hp LSD-less FWD for 7 years... I've done enough long smoky burnouts, got enough fines for doing them, now I prefer accelerating faster and making less smoke). I personally could have done without all the airbags, but I suppose if I ever have an intimate encounter with one of the drivers known as "morons" I'll appreciate them.
The Caliber SRT4 looks like one of those cars I used to make out of a cardboard box when I was a kid. Except my cardboard box cars had a better interior with less plastic. Car and Driver had it right when they called it "Tall (59.7 inches), brickish, and ungainly"
Other things to dislike about the caliber SRT4.....
- No real limited slip differential... it actually APPPLIES THE BRAKE on the side that's spinning to act like a LSD. Talk about a killjoy in the middle of a fast corner exit.
- Large 19" tires on it are EXPENSIVE (check it out!) to replace and made in very few different brands or tread styles/compounds (i see only 5 different tires listed on a major retailer online in this size, compared to 20 for the OE speed3 tire size, and 91 tires for the 225/40-18 size that alot of people run on the speed3).
- Brakes are larger but take ALOT longer to stop it compared to the speed3.
- The engine has a timing belt that needs replacement every 100K (at least) and is difficult (or expensive if you have a shop do it) to replace... the speed3 has no timing belt, it uses a low maintenenace timing chain that will likely never need replacement in the life of the car.
- It weighs more and handles worse than the speed3 (according to Car and Driver specs)
I personally mourned the death of the Neon SRT4. I really wanted one of those back when they came out. I picked the speed3 over even that car though, just based on the specs and the quality of the mazda brand (I always had good luck with them). The new caliber SRT4 is a huge miss though IMHO. Back when the SRT team created the neon SRT4 concept it was kind oa skunkworks project... created to show the potential of the platform to both corporate and the public... I feel like the caliber SRT4 was something they were
asked to create because of the success of the previous SRT4, and so that dodge would have a car in the lineup to compete with offerings from other companies. It's not like they didn't put alot of work and good ideas into it, I just don't feel the love with it like I did with the Neon SRT4.
