1st Mazda3 - new 2017 Sport! And need your help-

Hi there! I just bought a 2017 Mazda3 Sport yesterday and joined your club!

Ten minutes down the highway, I noticed a problem that didn't appear during the test drive:

When I have the heater dial turned to "feet" only, I get as much heat blowing in my face from the vents above the center console and the dash as on my feet. It's like sucking on a blow dryer, and I hate it. When I change the dial to "face & feet," the same amount of heat comes out of both levels as when it's on "feet" only.

I took it back to the dealership today, and was told two technicians looked at it. Both proclaimed it "normal," and within manufacturer standards. They suggested I tape an index card over the vents since the ones above the center console can't be closed.

I did a few searches of various Mazda forums and found a thread about a Mazda3 with this problem, back in 2005.Some people in that thread say it's normal and others say it's a linkage problem with the dial.

So I'm asking you all about your experiences. Is this problem normal for Mazdas, or is it unique to the car I just bought? (And yes, it's a problem. I can't find anyone else whose car does this.)

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience re the heat in your Mazdas! This will help me decide what to do about it.

My 2016 with auto climate control blows more air through the center vents when full floor is displayed. I do get a bit from the side dash vents, but not to the degree you describe.

Sent from a Samsung that doesn't explode.

Thanks, GerryBuc. It helps to know that my car isn't the only one like this.

I had a 2014 for 2 years that didn't do this (though I believe if I put it on just feet, it also blew a bit from top). Just picked up a 2017 this weekend and will try it on the way home to see if it does what you say.
