Spammers taking over this site?

Wow, looking at the posts over the last several days, it seems for every legitimate post, there are maybe eight or even ten spam posts. What with the "60-second" rule regarding reporting spammers, it seems the spambots can create new accounts and post their crap faster than any individual can report them.

It was a rough weekend, to be sure. I reported as many as I could, as quickly as I could.

Sent from a Samsung that doesn't explode.

Two more since you posted this message; looks like they're starting again.

Saddly they look like manual post. Hard to block, just needs more active spam squashing. Maybe ban links for the first 5 days of posting?

They're actually easier than you might think to beat; I'm a moderator on another forum owned by the AutoGuide.com folks and this attack started over there a few weeks before it hit here. Over there we've slowed the spammers to only a post or two per week.

Oy-vey, more spammers than I can report today!

I'm concerned we're going to lose our active members and not be able to attract new members if nine out of every ten new posts is SPAM.

I don't think I have ever been on a forum with this much spam.

It's going around. The best solution to this so far, as I've gleaned through anecdotal evidence, is a 5 post limit on posting links.
