My cigarette lighter fuse keeps blowing...

I replaced the fuse and as soon as I plugged something into it, it blew right away. What's wrong?! This is really irritating! Please help!

Yeah It sounds like there is a short somewhere. Does it blow with just that device or with all devices? Make sure there's nothing metal in the socket.

First of all, did you install any electronics that are drawing power from the cig lighter or anything on that circuit?

Re: My cigarette lighter fuse keeps blowing...

No, I don't have anything else plugged into it besides what goes into the cigarette lighter. Then I put a 20 Fuse in the place of the 15 for the cig lighter and worked with no problems...

My Sirius Satellite Radio and then I'll switch between that and my iPod Transmitter and my GPS charger.

You should never, never put a higher rated fuse then what is originally specified.

You run the risk of burning/melting wires.

Re: My cigarette lighter fuse keeps blowing...

do you have any other electrical add-ons in your car (e.g. sub-woofers, etc). I'm wondering whether any of those add-ons were tapped into your cig ligher circuit.

I have a subwoofer, amp and what not. But, none of it is being run through the cigarette lighter. The things that I listed are the only uses I have for it.

What should I do if it keeps blowing the 15w fuses everytime I plug it in, when before it worked with no problems until recently?
