mazdaspeed3 cargo space?

The cargo space apparently is not exactly the same as the mazda3.

The mazda3 has 17.1ft^3 with seats up and 31.2ft^3 with it folded.

But the data on the mazdaspeed3 is conflicting and incomplete. The official mazdaspeed3 brochure from australia lists the cargo space as "290 liters" which is a mere 10.2ft^3. Another listing I have seen says 16.5ft^3. And there's no data at all for cargo space with the seats folded.

Anyone have authoritative figures?

Per the specs on mazdausa.com, the EPA Cargo Volume is 16.5 cubic feet.

Yeah, the Mazda Canada site lists "16.5 SAE" even though the dimensions are listed in mm. This is interesting. I knew they lost a little passenger space up front since they curved the dash in to accomodate the engine, but where was the space lost in the back if the 3 hatch is 17.5? The Australian site shows 290 liters of cargo space for the MPS3 and 300 for the 3 hatch.

Hmmm... should there be concern on front legroom? That'll be a bummer for me

Re: mazdaspeed3 cargo space?

So the mazdaspeed3 gained 12.2ft^3 cargo space over the mazda3? Very strange.

Re: mazdaspeed3 cargo space?

So, everything is the same for the M3 vs. MS3 including EPA passenger volume, except cargo capacity with the rear seats up AND hip room. Hip room in the MS3 is down by a little over 1 inch front and rear. I didn't see a spec for the M3's cargo capacity with seats folded down.

I doubt the missing 0.6 cubic feet is spare tire. I imagine they all use the same mini-spare. I suspect that cargo room and hip room have been reduced by the putting in of braces and such to stiffen the MS3. The MS6 lost a good 3-4 inches of trunk space due the brace in the space behind the rear seats.

Re: mazdaspeed3 cargo space?

I'm just wondering where the extra 12 feet of cargo space came from. The mazdaspeed3 should have less cargo room than the mazda3, not more.
