Front tires wearing fast on outside only. Why?

I have a 2009 Mazda 3 Hatchback with just over 7,000 miles and I have noticed both of the front tires are wearing excessively on the outside edge. At 4,700 miles I had the tires rotated and the tires that were on the front show considerable outside edge wear. 2,300 miles later and the current front tires are showing the same thing. The tires are all at 35 psi and they are the stock Goodyear RSAs. I understand that these tires are crappy, but is this normal for these tires? I don't autocross or drive like a maniac, so this kind of wear is disappointing.

Might be an alignment issue.

Excessive wear on the outside edge usually indicates too much toe-in on the front. Assuming you bought it from a dealer take it back and tell them to fix it. It should be aligned properly from the factory.

toe in, definitely your problem if underinflation is not.

Dealer will probably not pay for it, but you can always try.

y would they have to cover it? You could have run your car into a curb and f'd up your alignment the day after you bought your car (not saying the OP did, just saying why they aren't really liable here).

Outside of instances like obvious abuse alignment is covered by a 15k/6mo warranty, most cars are out from the factory due to transportation, also most of the time you can file a claim with the manufacturer for a reimbursment

Re: Front tires wearing fast on outside only. Why?

While the car is older than 6 months old, I guess I'll take it to the dealer and see if they can take a look at it. And no, I have not hit any curbs, I don't want any curb scuffs on those wheels! Anyway, thanks for the advice.
