Unhappy Rattling, clunking, and ticking noise from rear passenger wheel!?

Hey all,

I recently had my rear brake pads replaced and rotors resurfaced. Shortly after, I started to hear a rattling and clunking noise from my rear passenger side. I asked a mechanic to look at it and he confirmed that it was coming from the rear passenger side, most likely the wheel area.

Essentially, he took off the brakes and rotors and span just the wheel hub. There was a loud "ticking" noise from the hub and he said that it could be a shot bearing. I went ahead and ordered a replacement hub assembly but the noise is still there.

What do you guys think it could be? I have a 2008 Mazda 3 with all stock suspension. Thanks in advance.

Notes:
  • Rattling more noticeable after driving over a bump
  • Did NOT hear noise when turning the car side to side
  • When crusing at 5 mph, the wheel has a very noticable ticking noise. The other wheels don't tick like the rear passenger one.
  • Noise only 45mph and under.

Best regards,
-tcdos

Well. You need to replace it first, before you hear improvement

I haven't worked on my Mazda's breaks yet but on a previous break job I accidentally put the pieces back in the wrong order and the emergency break cable was rubbing against one of the rotating parts. Like I said, I haven't worked on a Mazda's breaks but that is what jumps out to me.

Could the noise be your suspension? maybe you knocked something loose when working on your brakes

nope I was somewhat of a help

Thanks for the reply. That was exactly the problem, the pads were installed incorrectly which is why there was a clunking noise.
