Brake noise in reverse

OK, got an oddball one. This isn't a problem with my car, but with a 2007 Mada 3 that my significant other recently bought. She lives 800 miles from me, so I have not seen this problem in person and can't give much in the way of details but can ask her if need be.

This problem only happens if the car has been parked a while and has cooled-off, never when warm. What happens is that the brakes make noise when she's backing out of a parking space and turning at the same time. NO noise when moving forward, only reverse. And NO noise when the car has been warmed-up, only when it has sat for a while. And NO noise when she reverses in a straight line, only while turning and braking at the same time while in reverse.

Gotcher head wrapped around that list of symptoms? Any thoughts?

My only guess is that the car has sat through some changes in humidity. So the rotors have some flash rust on them like when occurs on a dewy morning. When she begins to turn the wheel and apply brake, the pads polish the rust off and that process has a rough sound. When the vehicle is "warm" and not Maki g the sound that's because the brakes have been cleaned of the rust already. The person's symptoms may be due to simple schedule of driving.

I have the same issues the OP is having and I agree with you Phames, I think it is just changes in humidity.

Is there anyway to prevent this "flash rust"?

Why do we drive on parkways but park on driveways?

My car would make a super loud noise when going in reverse after a cold start however the noise would disappear when warmed up as described.
There have been few posts about it and most people brush it off as rust caused by humidity but when it happens every time whether garaged or not as it did with me, it is certainly not just a humidity issue causing rust although this would definitely play a factor.

In my case, turns out my rear caliper pins were not freely moving around so I cleaned them up and lubricated them. Cleaned my rotors and brakes with brake cleaner for good measure and now no more sounding like a train horn when i'm backing up.

I have seen some youtube videos with the same problem and in the comment section the owner said they fixed the problem by replacing their calipers as it was apparently seized.
Unsure if the caliper was actually seized or if it could have been solved by cleaning the caliper pins but might want to check those out.

If the noise happens once a while when there is a lot of humidity then I would say it is most certainly normal, but if you get the loud annoying embarrassing sound every time you reverse out in sunny California, I would most definitely check out caliper assembly and make sure everything is running as it should.

Despite what people say, IT IS NOT NORMAL FOR THE CAR TO MAKE THIS SOUND EVERYTIME.
