Strut ball bearings just exploded everywhere

I was replacing my sway bar bushing and endlinks thinking that was the culprit of my rattling. I was turning the wheel to get better access when I heard this weird pinging sound. Anyways by the time I get around to the passenger front side my wheel is hanging off funny. I look up inside the wheel well and I see my strut had broke free from the top of the mount. There are ball bearings all over the spring of my strut.

What exactly happened and how do I repair this? I was thinking I would need a new strut mount like this but it says it has no ball bearings?

Can someone tell me what I need to fix my problem?

Use plenty of oil and a 3-5 lb hammer and give it firm raps with the hammer. You are not trying to drive a railroad spike but jar the strut a bit so the oil can penetrate. Make sure the strut is still attached on top so it is hanging and not loose where you are supporting it with your hand.

Anyway, good luck and be patient!

Oh, also clean the seam well, scrubbing with a wire brush is best with scrubbing with a scotchbrite pad second, then scribe a line right at the seam. Then when you are whacking the control arm down you can see if you are making progress, even if it is 1/32" every couple of minutes.

I got that surprise when I replaced the struts on my '05. It happened to be the last corner and I was not in the mood to stop. I was able to find all but one of those little suckers, cleaned the dust off then put the races back together, axle greased it and hoped for the best. In the next 2 years I didn't have any issues with it.

so just wanted to give an update and maybe leave this as reference for some unfortunate soul in the future. I did finally get it off. I was about to just stick the spring compressors in the well and just change the mount inside the well, but I saw a very in depth video that mentioned to not remove the endlink before hammering the control arm. This one tip helped stop my strut from just floating in the air.

Yea need to find some good grease for when I change the driver side so this doesn't happen again. Also I was told you should sand off the paint down there.
