I'm not using the rear Mz5 calipers on the rear, just the brackets. I bought the whole caliper set because it was cheaper that way. ~$104 per bracket from the dealer to ~$71 each from online retailers. I bought used caliper sets which include brackets and bolts for $35 w/~$10 shipping each.

Cool, that's what I was hoping you were going to say.

Did you source your MS3 front calipers from the same place you got the mz5 calipers? Cost?

I was talking to a guy at a show this summer who had a wrecked speed and I was trying to get him to let me buy the brakes but he wasn't sure what he was gonna do with it yet.

I sourced the MS3 front and rear calipers from a different dismantler. See my original post for cost. I'll be updating that to reflect my activity.

Re: Mazda 3 OEM BBK Upgrade Personal Log

So you've decided to use the Speed's rear calipers? Or was it cheaper to buy all 4 than just the fronts?

Re: Mazda 3 OEM BBK Upgrade Personal Log

Yes I will be upgrading to Goodridge brake lines since Mazda 3 owners haven't been complaining about those.

I have 93k miles on my '07 and still running the original OEM pads. There's at least 40% left on them, believe it or not. Leaning towards Akebono ProACT and Euro ceramic pads.

Yeah I decided to also get the '09 Ms3 rears because of the mileage I've racked on my car. The bonus was that the dismantler gave me an extra $5 off each corner, and shipping basically came out to less than $4 per corner.

Re: Mazda 3 OEM BBK Upgrade Personal Log

Interested to see how this goes for you. I've had some ms3 calipers sitting around that I picked up cheap a couple months ago. Just ordered stainless steel lines. Also saw the good deal tirerack has on the dba rotors. I'll probably go with those. Still undecided on pads but was leaning towards the Porterfields.

Re: Mazda 3 OEM BBK Upgrade Personal Log

I'm still debating between going with OEM MS3 brake pads vs. Hawk HPS for this upgrade. A lot of folks here have said the OEM MS3 brake pads are as good as you're going to get in terms of performance however they are hella expensive!

Re: Mazda 3 "OEM" BBK Upgrade Personal Log

Minor updates to my orig. post.

Sincy my priorities are to improve the driving dynamics and performance while maintaining that Grand Tourer ride quality, I won't be able to use Porterfield R4-S and Hawk HPS pads. Never ran across posts regarding the use of OEM Ms3 pads on a Mz3 but I'm curious. And how much are they anyway for a front set?

Whatever you guys decide to go with I'd like to hear what your impressions are.

Re: Mazda 3 "OEM" BBK Upgrade Personal Log

Interested to see how your install goes. I've got all my parts in the mail. Going to check today to see if my '06 caliper mounting bolts are the same as the ms ones. Seems like some years are the same, while other years have a different thread pitch. Anyone know for sure?
